3 (1.5”) pvc pipes going into 1 (2”) pvc pipe

If I have 3 drain (2 skimmers, and main drains) lines that are 1-1/2” running to the equipment pad and converted all 3 of them to 2” pipe a few feet before the pool pad (underground) and went into the pump with a 2” will I have issues?

1 foot of 1-1/2” pipe has a volume of .0918 x 3 pipes is .2754 in volume. 1 foot of 2” pipe (going into the pump) is a volume of .1632. There is 68% more volume in the three 1-1/2” than the 2” going into the pump.

There is four 1-1/2” return lines fully open. That I can do the same manifold going out with 2” if needed.

What you describe is how half the pools in the US are plumbed. It will not make any real operational difference....

Most pumps only have a 1.5" or 2" input and they are often connected to several 1.5" or 2" pipes...

You are just making this much harder than it needs to be...

What is it that you are trying to do???

What pump do you have?

Mostly, as long as you're not trying to put too much flow through the lines, you're good.

No residential pool should need to exceed a filtering flow rate of 63 gpm for any reason.

For normal filtering, 15 to 20 gpm should be sufficient. The maximum flow rate for most pools is needed for gas heating.

Typically, about 40 gpm is sufficient for up to 400,000 btu/hr.

Note: 63 gpm is 6 ft/sec in 2" pvc, which is the maximum recommended velocity for suction plumbing.

We are going to be putting in a new pool next spring myself and was going to run flex back to the equipment pad. Not sure on pump, but was thinking Pentair IntelliFlo VS. or one of the Hayward VS pumps. Would like the pump to be able to filter the water easily in 8 hours and then be able to turn it down from there.

Pool is around 20,000. Sand filter, electric heat pump, salt Generation. 4 returns. No other features. The pump will be about 30’ from the pool. Just don’t want to under plumb.

It sounds to me like you believe in the old myth that you have to "turnover" your pool water X times a day... This is not at all true... Chemicals are what keeps your water clear and sanitized, the filter just captures what falls into your pool.. Things like leaves or bugs, etc.

If it's a new pool, the suction should be a minimum of 2".

1.5" should not be used at all.

I would do 2.5" for the main drain line and separate 2" lines for the skimmers.

Nothing should tie together underground.

You should use hard pvc and not flex.

Main drains are supposed to be tied together underground right next to each other then one line coming out
