Pool Liner Replacement Cost?

Hi Everyone I hope this is the right forum on here to ask this question - I finally found the source of the leak in my pool, it's in the liner about 1 ft up from the shallow end in a terrible spot where there is a curved seam at the stairs (hard to patch). The liner is also faded and over 10 years old. We had American Pool Liners come out earlier today for a pool liner presentation which they quoted $5,100 for a new pool liner and installation. It does not include the water fill, and some of the other items like new lights, so it's really only removal and re-installation.

My pool is a 18 x 36 ft roman style with the the liner covering the staircase. Would you say $5,100 is a fair price?

Would you recommend I work with any other company to get quotes?
 
Hey. Had my liner replaced this season went through heck with a big company who screwed me royally. Gave a deposit and he disappeared. Was recommended by the liner manufacturer, who screwed me too. At the end of the day I have a 20x40 round corners 3.5' -6.5' deep pool. Paid $3900 for the change with a Merlin liner, very happy with it. The installer was my original pool builder who did not take a deposit until the liner was in my possession. My experience with him was great.

BTW a local company who I regularly buy stuff from knew I was in a bind offered to due me a favor and do it for $5500. I went back once and the guy said when do you want to schedule the summer is slipping away...I said it was done and he actually asked how much I paid. I said can you keep a secret? He said of coarse, I said so can I. LOL I will never go back there again.
 
I had mine replaced over 10 years ago so I can’t say that the price would help you much.

If I had to guess, the manufacturer was Latham. I say that because I needed to replace the safety cover they made and the original installer had gone out of business. Of course they won’t deal with the customer directly. They gave me 3 numbers for installers in my area. Two of the numbers were disconnected, and the third didn’t come out until October and I never got a quote from them.

Good info - I have a very similar pool (actually yours in bigger) and I would expect prices on Eastern Long Island to be more than Central Connecticut...Do you happen to know if the company you used is more local or do they operate in multiple states? Can you recall the name of the company that did your liner?
 
I am trying to get a deal from American Pool Liners because this is probably when the company slows down up here in CT. He kept telling me they are extremely busy in early spring, so I was looking for a better price than $5100 but he couldn't go any lower. They do offer a lifetime warranty on the liner which covers new liner and installation so it might be worth it to spend a little more. What do you guys think?

It also sucks that they don't throw in new lights, water delivery, and even make you throw away the liner after they bag it up!! They wont even let me take the liner out first to save money!
 
Doesn't sound terrible. Had a liner done by a one man show company 2 years ago. He took his time to finally get there and he quoted and then took till second week in July to install. Lol we started with him in May. He was hard to nail down but all his references had the same issues and said he just doesn't know how to schedule his time. It was for a leaking concrete pool which was loosing inches every day. A mega liner company sent a rep to do critical dimensions and had it made and shipped to this guy. It was $4500 and that included cutting concrete in three places to install a new/replaced skimmer replace one existing return jet and claimed the pool needed one more return jet and did that too. Pool has been fantastic ever since. As I said, he's a one man show and won't travel. I'd asked him about a job a little bit away and responded saying "I can't handle what I have currently, I ain't interested. I always say, cheap is good along with accountability. If they don't warrant their work or you can't get them back for a problem what good was cheap. The saying goes, cheap is expensive.

Does that include new wall foam and if needed, any vermiculite patching if your floor is vermiculite?
I would want to see the lifetime warranty in writing to see what it covers and how it's prorated. Most liners come with 15 to 20 year warranties but they're very prorated. I don't think it could hurt to get a couple more estimates too.

Be sceptical with "lifetime warranties". They can be difficult, if not impossible, to enforce. They usually apply to manufacturing defects only. Most liner problems are due to poor installation, accidental cuts/tears, poor water chemistry, hardening/oxidation, etc, most of which of which would not be covered by warranty. Most manufacturers will just say that any problems you have wasn't a manufacturing defect, it was one of the above.

My guy has too much work on the Island. But hindsight being 20/20 vision I should have done it last year at the end of the season. After getting screwed from both manufacturer and installer, my guy was great getting it done within 10 days of me getting in touch with him. I lost way too much of the season, due to me thinking why put a new liner in to be closed for the winter. If I had to do it all over again I would have done it at the end of last season.

I am skeptical about the lifetime full coverage installation company warranty as well because of how hard it would be to get them to replace it upon an issue. Would they really want to replace it for us or just give us a million reasons why they won't!!

Doesn't include water, but did include the foam, minor repairs to the vermiculite and steal walls along with new faceplates for the skimmers, return jet and main drain covers. Give Juliano's a call, not sure if they cover the Bristol area but may be worth a call.

I think they do because I see them around, did you get a lifetime warranty with yours?
