I was out of town for a week and came home to a green pool. My daughter has her birthday party here friday and I need to get the pool ready in time. My neighbor was adding bleach for me but maybe the filter time failed?? My wife added a gallon of bleach today before I got home and ran tests. Test results are below, I really need your guys help asap please.

Cl 5
Ph 7.8
Fc 3.5
Cc .5
Tc 4
Ta 90
Cya 20

I added 1lb 7oz cya according to pool math. The water is cloudy green and algae on the ladder.

How many gallons are in your pool? Signature says 2,100 gallons??

Load up on liquid chlorine and follow the SLAM Process step by step. The more often you can check your FC level and raise it back up to SLAM level the faster you will get the pool cleared.

It is safe to swim if FC is below SLAM level and you can see the bottom of the pool.

23 oz of stabilizer will raise your CYA by 20ppm. What CYA were you targeting?

Get your SLAM chlorine level correct following FC/CYA Levels

You may want to enlist your family to get involved in testing and adding chlorine every hour if they want the pool ready by Friday. Hourly SLAM can work very well to clear a green pool fast. If you have to be away at work though and are the only one doing it, Friday may come too soon.

You need to follow the instructions here. SLAM with chlorine until you pass the OCLT, follow the FC/CYA chart to know your slam level. It is very important that the FC level stays at or above the level in the chart or you will essentially be starting over every time it drops below. Run the pump 24/7 while slamming.

Sadly, there is no shortcut to a clean pool once it is green.

You have a choice to make. You can either drain most of the pool (leave 12-18 inches) to get a jump on the algae, or begin the SLAM Process immediately and hope for best results by the weekend. The SLAM may not be over by the weekend, but the water "might" be blue again (perhaps cloudy) to where you can enjoy it. But it's really your call. If you start the SLAM, follow the SLAM Process page to the letter right away for best success.

Maybe wait on the CYA if you have a hard 20ppm test result. Can you pull the sock now? Less FC needed at 20ppm SLAM. 30 would be ok, but 40 will mean more chlorine ($$).

Bleach is what you want to use, don't use the algaecide and the Chlorox shock product is probably dichlor which will raise CYA.

Depends if you have plain bleach. Not scented, not splash free, no additives, not Clorox.

CYA 30 will make the SLAM Process easier using less chlorine which is why I questioned you about the CYA.

Algaecide does not fix an algae problem once you have an outbreak. It only adds unwanted chemicals to your water.

Review the SLAM Process directions before continuing. It says raise CYA to 30 and lower pH to 7.2-7.4.

I just pulled the sock out. What now? Add the bleach to shock level and monitor fc?

And by the way, thank you guys so much for the quick responses!

Intex pools can be drained as far down as the drain hole is without worrying about the liner.

If the water replacement isn't an issue, that would be the fastest and easiest way to be ready by Friday.

Also, this is a duplicate thread (same pool, same issue).

Probably should merge the two.

Per your other thread, are you interested in draining and refilling at all?

Yes to the filtering 24/7, set the pump to FP. If any of that CYA got into the water, we shall call your CYA 30 for SLAM. More bleach for you. Check Pool Math.

Hopefully the threads will be merged so we can keep on track.

Cant drain it, too close to end of season and 2 days to refill. Not much cya into the water, the sock was in there 20 mins tops. But 30 would be a safe bet I'd say.

11 oz gave you 10 ppm. You started with 23 oz. Did you lose about half what you had in the sock?
