Recently I bumped my borates up from 50PPM to 80PPM after obtaining some additional information from one of our knowledgeable and respected TFP experts.

I must say that I have not had any pH excursions or anything. In fact, my pH has been extremely stable for over a year now and typically lives at around 7.7 ppm.
Basically I just wanted to see if I would experience any additional or added benefits from the increase of borates.

It does appear that I have. Maybe this is just the "placebo" effect. :) But after adding nearly 30 pounds of boric acid and brushing the pool and running the pump several hours, I certainly think that I see an improvement.

The water appears to be even more clear if that was possible (with the pump off, it hardly looks like there is any water in the pool) The water seems to have an added sheen and brilliance that appears to be greater than before.

I am not necessarily promoting the use of borates because everyone has their own situations such as pets that drink the pool water, etc etc. But in my particular situation, environment and water chemistry, the added borates appear to have improved the look and feel of the pool water.

Was the improvement only from 50 to 80 or did you see improvement from 0 to 50?

Yea, when I added the 50 ppm of borates originally late last year, it was a huge improvement. Really helped with the stabilization of the pH plus all of the water appearance advantages.
Thanks...

Thanks, I bought Boric Acid at the beginning of Summer but have not pulled the trigger on adding as I’ve only owned a house with a pool for 6 months. I’ve been able to keep the water in good condition with the SWG and keeping everything within tolerance so was reluctant to rock the boat.

Hi bigtrh24
Once your water has stabilized for a period of time, I think you will be fine. Just use pool math to calculate how much BA that you will need. Maybe start off with 40 or 50 ppm and let things settle in first.
