Any tips for keeping hornets and wasps away from pool area

My son-in-law is highly allergic to various bee, hornet, and wasp venom. As I type this, my husband is with him at the ER after
he was stung today. I need any suggestions people have for keeping hornets and wasps away from the pool and pool deck area.

We don’t see many bees near the pool and I’ve moved any flowering plants away to reduce the possibility. We’ve seen both white faced hornets and yellow jackets. I also have a fresh water source for them which is not near the pool. I am open to any suggestions.

Search amazon for bee/hornet and wasp traps The school's sports fields use these and they are usually full with dozens of dead yellow jackets so they definitely work. You might need a few different ones, bees are different than wasps in most cases.

Evidentally that brand has 2 models east of the Rockies and west of the Rockies.

I would find wasp nests under the uprights and end caps. Look up under there and see if you find any signs of a nest. Wait until dusk to spray any nests you find so you kill the wasps, then remove the nest. After all the nests are gone coat the underside of the uprights in petrolium jelly, so they can't start a new nest. If you have a deck around the pool treat the underside of it too. Usually once I kill a nest they don't come back to the same spot. Be careful of the sunscreen you use too. The ones that have a sweet or strong smell may attract wasps and bees.

I saw these at Lowe’s and purchased one. Maybe I need more of them and better placement. Thanks for the testimonial that they work. After 2 days, I saw fewer hornets near the pool, but obviously at least one too many hung around.

I’ll do some checking in the morning. I really hope there isn’t anything under the decking because there isn’t any clearance for us to crawl under and check things out, but we’ll have to do what we can.

They also have fake nests. Suppsedly they wont hang around close to another clan. The nests were real enough looking that if i didnt know better it would fool me for sure. Maybe put one or two up close to the pool and a few bag traps to catch any that are exploring nearby.
