Delay pool opening - crappy weather

I was planning on opening my pool this weekend as typically I open it the first weekend in May. The weather has been so horrible in New England this spring and now I have no incentive to do it this weekend. The forecast for the upcoming week is 50 degrees and rainy through Thursday. Then maybe 60's and sun starting Friday.

The water is crystal clear. Just checked my water temp and at 3" it's 58 degrees and at 2 feet it's 53 degrees. With the forecast, I can't see the water hitting 60 before next weekend. Also, it's windy and tons of Crud is falling from the trees. I don't see any downside of delaying the opening another week. But I would like other opinions because I've never opened this late in May before. What else am I missing?

I think your instincts are correct. You would need a pretty significant hot spell for one week to make much difference at this time. If the weather continues to be poor, try to get some chlorine in the pool to keep things in check.

I haven’t opened mine yet, and I normally open the end of April. Like you, my pool is still clear, and I didn’t take a temperature reading.

Waiting for my second skimmer and new pump to arrive, will uncover to install. I briefly considered opening with my existing pump and plumbing and then trying to redo it

Thought about getting some bleach in there but would it be worth it without any circulation to distribute it? Or would it be ok to just add it around the edges under the cover?

We don't close where I live, but I think I;d follow my instincts if I were you. Leave it. Leave it all. I wouldn't even mess around adding any bleach. If the cover is solid, very little light will go through, so no algae will grow. And even if it does, how bad can it get in a week, especially if you don't have a bunch of debris?

Spend the time cleaning up around the pool. If there's any weed-whacking that needs doing, do it while the pool is covered. Likewise with leaf-blowing.

This week I would let it ride. Only consider bleach if things stretch out longer than anticipated and it gets warmer before you can open.

Great advice.....I'll spend today pressure washing my deck around the pool.
The cover is mesh so not solid. Some sun can get through, but given the forecast, there will be no sun this week
