Any suggestions? The pump we had died at almost the end of last season, so I just drained the pool. I’d like to stay under $300. I was looking at the intex combos on amazon. I just need it to last for 3 more years. I think I’d like to go with a sand filter this year, I know it needs to be oversized and I’m having a hard time finding the info I need on the search function. Thanks for any insight anyone has!

- Basically, purchase the largest you can afford
- You will love your sand filter! We do!!
- Some things to consider::
- Your filter can never be TOO big for your pool...
- BUT your pump can be too big for your filter
- OR your filter too small for your pool size (requiring more frequent attention/cleaning)

Go with the intex, the pump is smaller but in my mind that's better, 1.5 hp single speed is just wasting money. The only concern is small pump plus small filter = lot of backwashing so check your pressure every day plan on needing a backwash ever two weeks I'm guessing
I think you will be pleasantly surprised with the improvement of "water clarity" with a better/bigger pump & filter on your pool!
I’m going to keep looking with those two in mind, now that I have an idea of what to look for. I assume a 19” with a 1hp would be ideal as a set? Amazon has one I’ve seen with some decent reviews

I did a quick eBay look if you want to have fun and try something.
19" China brand sand filter $180 (nobody has bought one that I know of)
Intex cartridge pump with swg $160
Take the cartridge filter out and leave out, hook pump to filter, you will need $20-30 in connections or fittings, can use PVC
Proper sized filter with a swg and with a small but good enough pump, (I think I have the same pump)

A VS (variable speed) would be ideal, you can run it low for circulation and turn it up for vacuuming or play time.
A 0.75hp will run a vacuum nicely.
Another upgrade you could consider is a through-wall skimmer

The problem I have with combos is the pump is often oversized for the filter, or they go off of the motor home and not the impeller hp so I try to stay away from China pumps unless it's for a small pool. Don't get me wrong it will work probably all 3 years.
