Solar cover longevity

Hi kids, does anyone have a solar cover dealer/brand/ manufacturer that will last more than 2 years???...8-14 mil....can’t do heavier because of the weight..my solar covers are in pieces after 2 years...have had several weights and brands still no luck
Chemistry meticulously maintained so eliminate that factor...thanks
 
It is recommended to get the cheapest solar cover you can find. They all only last 2-3 seasons regardless of weight or price.
 
I just got a 12mil Sun2solar cover off of Amazon.

Its replaceing the identical cover that lasted 3 seasons.

Why did I get 12mil and not save a little money on the 8 mil you say? I could get the 12mil in clear and not blue.

Why did I get blue you say? I like the clear cover I don't know why I just do.

Going into the 3rd season I thought it was going to be get me into a 4th season it looked that good. But sure enough like clockwork by the time I was ready to close the pool last year that solar cover started ripping everytime i touched it.
 
End of season is always a good time to buy those. You can often get a substantial savings as long as you’re willing to store a giant box in your garage for the winter.

But yeah, I stopped buying solar covers because I got tired of filling up the landfill every 2 years with a giant roll of bubble wrap. No cover lasts more than 2-3 seasons then it’s off to the dump to spend the next million years slowly breaking down. I’m not a tree-hugger (in spite of my goofey avatar) but it always bothered me how wasteful solar covers are. However, I suspect one reason why they fail so quickly is that they are made out of a slightly-more-biodegradable plastic than what was used in the past....
 
Well, from a green perspective do they save more gas/electricity than it takes to make them? I guess, what is their carbon footprint? From a money perspective they cost much less than the cost to heat my pool more without a cover. Or not swim. And we can't have that! :paddle:

I put mine in the recycle bin hoping they can be recycled. And it does seem like they are a little too biodegradable in the pool which could work out better in the landfill.

Can't you stuff the cover in your composter and extract LDPE oil from it for recreational use?

I’m working on the deal with the parent company, Joseph Enterprises, but they said I’d have to wait as they only do one famous person per year....I’m right behind Fred Savage in the marketing plan...

Unfortunately, that stuff causes a really “bad trip” so it’s not going in my composter ....I’ll keep working on the recipe tho....

One thing I found to increase longevity of a solar cover is to not leave it out in the sun when it is not on the water surface of the pool. Leaving it out in the blasting sun degrades the cover due to heat buildup when not on the cooling waters surface.

Either make sure it's in the shade or cover it with a solid colored cover. My previous solar cover came with a lightweight plastic sheet to cover it. Also, when removing it for long periods of time, clean and dry it as best as possible and store in the garage. Is it a pain - yes... but it can extend the life of the cover.
