Seems like it’s leaking from the bottom. First time I removed the chlorinator, I didn’t realize that there was a set screw, so I’m assuming I damaged something (diverter tee?). Is there a way to repair this without breaking into the plumbing and replacing the diverter tee? Not even sure if this is the issue. I only use this when I’m out of town, so I would like to get it fixed so it’s not constantly leaking.

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,

Can you please add a photo? It will help our experts figure out what you talking about so they can answer. One option would be to eliminate the chlorinator and just use a floating dispenser. They have the advantage that you chlorinate even if the pump fails for some reason while you're out of town.

Could be the tubing connections or where they screw in to the body. Some models also have a drain valve on the other side. Unfortunately all the common leak sources are on the other side of the unit. Can you please post one or two of the other side? The threads do not seal the vertical column on the housing so wort case you should be able to disassemble, replace the o-ring (part #R172087 for the standard size unit without the extension). Be sure to lube with pool silicone before you re-assemble. Looks like there is sufficient pipe to just replace with 2" PVC if you decide to go the floater..

I hope this helps.

There is an O ring on the bottom of the chlorinator body that is most likely leaking. O rings don't last long in these chlorinators. I have a 320 and The top cover O ring needs to be replaced each year and the bottom check valve/oring lasts maybe 2 years. The bottom O ring needs lube but the top one should be dry. The problem I was having is the flow thru the 320 is dependent on your discharge pressure, so after I clean my filters I need to turn i down. Then there's the problem of too much CYA but that is a another can of worms. I just abandoned mine in place and just started the TFP pool method with bleach. I am planning on using my 320 for when I go on vacation.

Mine has only seen limited uses (in service 6 years) because I was on TFP methodology and only used it for vacations, so much less wear and tear. The bottom o-ring hasn't failed yet but I have had to replace the top one once. I switched to SWG a month ago and could kick myself for not doing it years ago when many here suggested it. Easy peasy install, and FC very constant. NO MORE JUGS! I think I'll eventually remove the chlorinator just to eliminate the potential leak source.

I just purchased a brand new chlorinator and will install it when I open my pool in a few weeks. Got it for a decent price ($65), so figured it would be worth a shot. I rarely use it, but want it for when I go on vacations, etc.. Lets hope this works! Thanks for the advice.
