Open date on East Coast?

I opened mine Saturday in upstate NY. Way early but I like to get it all cleaned up and looking good. It doesn't cost much to keep it open early season anyway. The answer you're looking for is before the water warms to a point where algae will grow so before you hit mid to upper 50's.

We just pick a Sunday at the end of April/beginning of May, depending on our schedules. This year, my bf and I are going to have a smoke out (we have no familial obligations this year!) and open our pool on Easter Sunday, weather permitting. Can't wait!

In MD I open mid-April, always to a clear water, with a mesh cover. This year I will open 4/16 or 4/23.

Finished redoing the electrical on my pump pad this weekend. Sunday was cold and windy, so I held off opening. I have a tarp cover with waterbags and water boxes holding it down (not pretty). It is so much better to just get it open and cleaned up. With a VS pump, there is little cost to doing so besides, dealing with cherry tree flowers.

So.... If I'm ambitious, some evening this week, but most likely next weekend.

Next weekend or so weather permitting. No later than 4/13. Cover is already off and added some bleach for good measure.

I opened last weekend. Last year I opened April 14th. This year I opened earlier cause of how the first day of trout season fell and Easter. Didn’t want to deal with it those weekends. Lol

I’m just balancing this week and doing my typical maintaining in cold weather. My water is 46. Last year for point it was 42 and later.

I opened on March 24th in NJ. I know it’s early but when I peeked under cover and it seemed to be turning light green. It was crystal clear after day 2 and it’s been that way so far. Making it my goal to open first week of April.

I've got an 24 ft. above ground but I opened last week. Water temp was around 60 so I wanted to start testing and adding LC before any algae decided to "move into the neighborhood". And like Monkeysocks said, I'd much rather look at cold, crystal clear, blue water than stare at the gross leaves on top of my winter cover.

Interesting thing I noticed today. I took the cover off my pool and turned on the automation but not the pump or any other equipment. So this morning it was NOT in "freeze" mode since the air temp gauge registered 35, 1 degree above when it goes into freeze mode. BUT, the water temp gauge was registering 33! So it would appear that Aqualink only looks at air temp and ignores water temp. Since no water is flowing through any of the pipes (pool still has plugs) I am not concerned. But it is interesting that they would only look at air temp and ignore water temp when designing the freeze program.

What they teach on this site is to open early and close late due to water temps being lower (below 50) so there is less chance of algae growth so when you open back up you are clear vs a swamp. But everyone’s areas are different. I pretty much open when it’s easy for me and my water is still in the low 40’s. I would rather maintain an open pool that is clean vs taking a chance.

That’s all pretty much.
