Small Pool build in NW Peoria, AZ

There are a couple mobile R/O units operating in the Phoenix metro area. They can turn a pool over in one day with minimal water loss. Having this done once every three years is a better solution than having soft water run to your auto fill. R/O takes away all the other nasties that soft water won’t.

Hope all is well on your new build. Your nosy neighbors are ready for an update. ::epds::

Well it failed the pre-gunite inspection. Basically everything looked great according to the inspector, except that in one area we are within 5' of a retaining wall so according to city engineering it required additional rebar in that area. The usual 12x12 needed to have rebar run down the middle and extend 2' across bottom. They had a steel guy out the next day and he took care of it. The next day we had that insane storm which dropped alot of rain and made a mess out of an already messy yard. They sent out a crew to muck out the pool so hopefully we pass inspection tomorrow and shoot it later in the week.

And I had a temporary river in the side yard

Hopefully this is a sign of good things to come!

Those permit issues happen. Almost nice to know the inspector is paying attention. If I recall, my PB had to update some electrical after inspection.

Thats quite a bit of water. My pool was finished about 2 years ago to the day late September-October build). I encountered rain when my concrete decking was being poured. I was a little concerned since the concrete crew had to put plastic tarps over the fresh wet concrete. Turned out just fine.

Looks like you are getting close. Can’t wait to see that shell.

We had a river on our side yard as well. I also had to dig a trench to keep the water from encroaching on our patio. It was almost to the sliding door. I’d like to have a brief conversation with the guy that graded our yard. Everything drains toward the house. It also doesn’t help that we have a deck on top of the patio. All that water flows straight to the house as well. I’m going to install gutters and start researching French drains. Thinking I want to get them in or designed before our build.
‘Happy to see your progress! Looks like it’s done raining for now.

French drains will only do so much here in AZ due to the soil we have here. All of you grading should be sloped towards the front of your house, towards the street. When we get those monsoon downpours, it has to travel towards the culverts designed in your complex. (I.e the street)

That recent storm just dumped so much so fast that a drain would have been overwhelmed. Thankfully it stays away from the house. I do have a drain just outside my side gate. Due to the ruts cause by the heavy equipment there is a slight logjam by the gate. I will dig it out prior to putting the yard back together. The weather forecast looks promising so looking forward to progress.

Speaking of the recent storms, a few weeks back when we got over 3” of rain, I had to pump out a few inches of water from my pool. The water had crept past the tile and was halfway up the coping.

It it doesn’t hurt to make sure you know how to backwash and where to put the hose (often the sewer clean out in the front yard).

I hear you on the French drains. Very aware of our soil and storms. Born and raised in Phoenix. Yes,a real live native to AZ.
The grade in our yard all slopes to the house. Not to the culvert on the side yard. The drainage block in the fence is useless since water never flows towards it. That’s why I was thinking a drain would help if it discharged to the culvert. Gutters would help during the 6 days of rain we have. Thinking of options, need to find a way to divert the water to where it should have been designed to go.

Well, if your grading is that bad, then I see some trenching in your future. Does the water drain properly on the side of your house that has the culvert?

Looks great and nice you didn't have too much caliche. It also nice to save all the pavers for reuse. Thanks to all for the Soft water conversation in this thread. I'm going to have to find a way to tie in. They never mentioned that to me during my build.

Congrats! Looks like the pool is similar in size to the one we are doing (although different shape). Do you mind if I ask what depths you went with and why? I started a similar thread and I'm torn on the two depth options. Thanks!

Hi, I think the package we agreed to had a depth limit of 6'. We just thought 5.5' was the right depth for what we wanted. Off the Baja shelf it will be 3.5' (we could have gone deeper but that would have required an extra step) then it will just gradually drop to 5.5'. Perfect for floating around shooting hoops drinking and smokin stogies!! Our kids are not little anymore so will be used probably for BBall (we had a bball sleeve added) We have a grandbaby and one more the way so they will hang out on the baja mostly along with my old doxie Brownie. We just wanted a nice little party pool. Best of luck with your project.

Nice. Did you end up connecting your leveler to the softener. I never knew my backyard spigot was connected to the house and softener. Now I know why my front bib was trenched to the backyard for sprinklers and drip.

Not yet. There have been some great suggestions here and once we get past the pool build I will likely look into that for sure. Right now we don't plan on adding anymore items to the budget. Thats great that yours was plumbed already! I doubt mine is but I will have that water checked before I do anything just to make sure.

Thanks! it is taking shape. The shotcrete guys are really moving right along. Decking will be formed Friday and laid next Tuesday likely.

One nice addition if you like water sports is adding 2 sleeves on each side of the pool for a volleyball net. Everyone that comes to our pool loves playing volleyball. The games are a blast and it works for all ages. This assumes you have a minimum of about 8' on each side of the net.

We have 2 VB sleeves going in the deck along with a bball sleeve. Never have enough sleeves lol

You did it! You got a real pool! Have you started bonding with it aka watering it? That helps it cure better.

Here is a set of links I put together for new pools. It is a lot of into but this will give you time to start learning it.

Make sure to ask any and all questions you might have no matter how small! We have all been where you are at one point.

Now is also when you should ask what test kit they are giving you. Let us know so we can fill in any holes.
