Cya mystery

Yes, I got it from Ocean State.

I wonder if this stuff is just bad.. I'll test Monday and we can go from there..

The other thing I'm wondering is if it's truly 4lbs per the container. There's no seal on the top, when I said 2lbs, I meant half the container. Being 1.5 containers through, that's 6 lbs per the container; however, if they are short of weight, then maybe that's the issue..

I’ve taken the approach that it’s just bad. I don’t buy it any longer. The stuff at Walmart is only a little more expensive, but turns out to be much cheaper when you consider that you have to buy way more of the AquaMate.

Oddly enough I tested today.. I know I jumped a day... and my CYA non-glance method is at 30 on the nose, no "round up" required. So, tracking this all, it appears it truly takes about 1 week for anything dissolved via skimmer/t-shirt method to register on a test.

Seems weird to me.. but ok... it's definitely getting in there!

Should be up to ~40ish by mid week

BTW what brand does walmart sell?

I would call Ocean State and explain the situation, in addition to the manufacturer. Maybe you can get a partial credit on other items as they have some goodies there. I know the 12.5% liquid shock is up to par, and always fresh.

Perhaps I could, I really have no idea how good their policies are.. I honestly feel like the one I go to is basically a long standing "get it while it lasts" ,"all deals are final" type store.

I just added my first lot of cya yesterday since start up. I haven’t tested yet but it dissolved in a couple of hours. After adding it though (I went with half to start with) I realised that I wasn’t comfortable estimating the amount and went to the hardware store and purchased a set of digital scales. They were only $18 including batteries and seem accurate. Looking forward to using them in future and being able to accurately measure my weighted additions until I’m more comfortable with amounts.

I wonder how much impact method and filter type has, I recently added 4lbs. (HTH Brand) using the sock method (actually used 2 socks suspended on separate strings and it worked really well because they kept beating against each other so I didn't have to knead/massage them much) and got exactly what was expected within 24 hours and it hasn't increased since. That method puts it all directly into the water, not through the filter.

I wonder if larger particles get through a t-shirt and since it's going directly into the filter from the skimmer you have to wait for it to dissolve through the cartridge pleats.

Note: originally posted on your build thread, but it's more relevant here.

Tested yesterday, 30 on the nose with the glance test. The stare at it test put me above the 30 line which rounds up to 30.

I noticed where you hold the tube impacts the visibility of the black dot.

I'm going to get some "good" CYA from a pool store and see if I can push it to 40 in 24-48 hours. If that works, then got it, the CYA I got is bad.
