Help Identify a pool light?

Hi all,


I am looking to figure out my pool light. It does work fine and I know it's a low voltage light because of the transformer. I just don't like it. It's not bright enough for my liking and I wish it was a different tint/color. I wan't to say it is a halogen lamp in it now, it has a slight ramp on/off when I flip the switch.

In my mind the entire assembly seems small, I remember growing up and going to friends houses their pools had lights about twice as big. Is that a difference between Low and High voltage housings?

Lighting is my specialty, I am very comfortable taking things apart, re-wiring and fixing lights or electronics. What I am not comfortable with with removing stuff from the pool, something in the back of my mind says if I remove the light that is there, the entire pool is going to drain out the hole.

If anyone has any pointers on this light, if I can retrofit LEDs in there or if there is a new assembly I can swap in, I'm all ears!

Looks like a Pentair AquaLight or SpaBrite. They are the same except for the specific bulbs.

It's a sealed unit in a niche. The light is held in by a tab and a screw. You remove the screw and the light pulls out on a cord. The cord should have enough slack to make it to the deck for service.

The niche is already full of water, so no problem with losing water.

The label should have the model number and the installation manual shows the parts. You should replace the silicone gasket when you open the light.

Thank you for the info James! Sorry for taking a long time to get get this opened. I popped it out without even getting into the pool and you were correct! It is a SpaBright.


I'm sure it doesn't really matter but I'll ask anyways. Can I put in any R-20 12v bulb, or does it have to be the part number "79108100" from Pentair? I really don't think it matters, and I'm sure I can find an LED something that has that same form factor that would give off better light.

As long as the new bulb is the same specifications as the old bulb, you're good.
