Leslies Summer 2018 updates:

Download the new app, login/create account, get $10 rewards certificate
So far they've had 3 bring a water sample in for us to test and get $5 rewards certificate (you can participate in each event one time) (no purchase obligation)
They gave everyone $5 for July 4th

So I've racked up $30 in free trade bleach, which they've also been running almost non-stop sales on ranging from two 2.5 gal refillable jugs for $7 or $8, and most recently a three day 3 for $10 sale. Yes, you can use reward certificates on sale prices.

Plus, you get the rewards punch card for 10th refill free. It has been my cheapest summer ever so far. Thanks TFP and Leslies!

Notes: Even through their chlorine prices are stellar, that doesn't carry over to other items. I still buy my muriatic acid at Home Depot. Can't beat two gallons of full strength for like $11. Still buy my CYA at Walmart. Still buy my Calcium from Sams. Testkit from TFTestkits.net
 
Are you saying Leslie has 5 gallons for seven or eight dollars? And then 7.5 gallons for 10 bucks? Is that 12.5%?

I called local Leslie they said $22 plus $10 deposit

That’s a lot of weight to deal with but perfect if you need to shock. If they really Have these prices I may save my 1 gallon bottles
 
Too bad Leslie's in Texas only sells 1 gallons, 4 pack for like $18. Hopefully my HEB will get some stock 8¼ in, went yesterday and shelf was bare.

I go to a local "neighborhood" Walmart early in the week and talk to whatever assistant manager is on duty. They have a phone on their hip and punch in a few numbers which orders me however many gallons of chlorine I want. It comes in on a truck later in the week, typically Thursdays. I go pick it up. I do not drive around to find chlorine. Typically I buy 40 gallons at the time of 6% for $1.77. No storage issues with 6%. It has a long half life and is stable. Ordering on the internet for pick up at a local Walmart costs more. You can't get it for $1.77 that way.

Good to know! I’ll see about making this happen.

Speaking of shelf life, I had purchased 20 gallons two years ago for our last tenant to get her started. She decided to use a pool service, so the bleach went unused, obviously no good anymore. It still resides in the crawl space under our house.

Any suggestions on how to get rid of the stuff? Thought about flushing it down the toilet, but don’t want to impact the city water supply. Lol!

At 80 degrees
10 drops to 5 in 4 months
5 drops to 2.5 in 24 months
= 10 drops to 2.5 in 28 months

So if you store 10 for 4 months, you might as well be buying 5.

Chart says 10% will be half life in 241 days, which is about 8 months. Or am I interpreting it wrong?

anyway, since higher concentration looses value quicker, I guess it always make sense to use the higher concentration first. Am I correct?

I'm debating which 12.5% to use, the April one which is about 10.5% now (according to my testing) or the fresher one :)

Yes, my bad. I was thinking half-life half strength and time. Only strength. I always use oldest first, but just use 8.25%

That's when you need to do some math... Just picked picked up 8g of Bravo 8.25 at HEB, $2.59 ea., 192 date.

At least in Florida - yes, Leslie's has refillable yellow 2.5 gallon jugs that you purchase and own, then can get refilled with 10-10.5% bleach for anywhere between $3-$5 depending on the current sale or regular price. We have another chain called PinchAPenny that also works this way. Many local mom and pop pool stores as well. Yes, at the best sale, 7.5 gallons is 10 bucks, plus rewards program incentives.
 
Yes, when I was in Washington State, the best I found was Walmart when they ran a sale on their 1gal 10% in the pool/garden/bbq area for $2.50. The rest of the time, I just bought their generic 8.25% at regular price. Fred Meyers ran a sale once, but I was already stocked up. Safeway, Ace, home depot, lowes, and pool stores never had a better price than walmart while I was there.

I almost bought a SWCG.
