My pool is a disaster ?

I bought an above ground pool in May. It's not very big, 4 ft deep sixteen across. I've had it up just over one month.
I'm already on my 3rd filter. I knew the one it comes with would break easily. It lasted a few days. Bought a SandPro. It lasted a couple weeks before it broke. Bought a huge Hayward. Its been running about a week. At first it was great but it's already starting to fail. Currently it's got air in the return. I can't get it out no matter how many times i try. I know where it came from. Despite my best efforts the manual vaccuum hose will not prime completely. I've spent hours fighting it. So i bought a robotic vaccuum thinking it would help. Thr hose to that leaks water at the connectors & it emptied half my pool in about an hour. That's another source of the air in the filter. So i unhooked them both. I'm not sure how to get either of them to work properly.
Then there's the chemicals / debris in the pool. I live in the woods so I'm guessing the debris is going to be a constant thing. I hate it. I've never seen a pool that was this dirty even when it is clean.
The test strips i have show the water to have zero chlorine all the time. I've got a floater with a tab & I've put a lot more shock than reccomended into this pool but i still get zero chlorine. I can tell by the smell it doesn't have chlorine. Yesterday i put a full bag for a 5000 gallon pool. Still got a zero reading.
The water is cloudy almost all the time. Usually shocking it clears it up for a day or two then i have to do it again. The test strips show everything else to be normal but that pool is gross. I have not gotten it clean one day in the 6 weeks I've had it, except the day the vaccuum hose was pouring water on the ground & i had pure hose water in there.
Which is another thing. There is always a giant mud puddle next to my pool. Always. Everything is as tight as i can get it. The pool is full. But it still has water coming from somewhere.
What would you do at this point? I bought it for my kids & they can't play in it. Summer's almost over & after spending over a thousand dollars I'm ready to throw it away.
I'm so disappointed.

Welcome to the forum! :handshake:

I suggest you read Pool School - ABCs of Pool Water Chemistry and consider reviewing the entire Trouble Free Pool School.

Air is coming in on your suction side, where water comes from the pool to the pump. Or it is being introduced at the pump. Normally from a pump basket seal that is not lubed or tight enough.

For water chemistry, order a TF100 test kit
The only other real option for a test kit is a Taylor K-2006-C. Be careful comparing prices because the K-2006 comes in sizes, designated by a letter. The basic K-2006 has .75oz bottles. You need to get the K-2006-C to get the larger bottles that you want. Even then it is a little short on the reagent & powder for the FAS/DPD test.

I also have the SpeedStir. It makes testing much easier.

Hi, please post a photo of your pool and your current pump and filter. Also post a photo of the area where the pool is leaking. With good test results and photos we can help you get your pool cleaned up and running properly.

Why are you saying all these pumps are failing? Adding a bag of clorine that should cover a 5000 gal pool is just a drop in the hat sine your pool is about 15000 gal. Not sure if your pool has a airation jet on the outside of your return jet but i found mine leaked draining the pool a few inches a day. Every year when i open mine i dump 3 jugs in 2 days in a row and it stays crystal clear for the summer with just the floater. You have not mentioned what your PH is. if PH is off then you will never be able to clear up the pool

I already know where the air comes from. I mentioned this. It comes from the vacuum system. I've fought with this hose for weeks but i can't get the air completely out. I've done everything this site suggest as far as removing the air. I've read EVERY website.
I read all of the stuff about chemistry too. Like i said the test strip all reads normal except it says no chlorine all the time. Even after I've just dumped extra shock in it. The lack of chlorine probably has to do with the large amount of junk in the pool. But i can't get the junk out no matter what i do.

The first pump was the tiny one they come with. The reviews on it said it would not last. After 2 weeks it wasnt even turning on anymore but i expected as much. The SandPro got a crack which i also read happens. Not normally after 2 weeks but it definitely cracked across the bottom.
The pool is 4 ft deep by sixteen feet across. Its about 5000 galloons...

I do not understand any of this

I guess I'm dumb because none of this makes any sense to me.
I have had my above ground pool for over a month but i have yet to figure out how to work it.
I have spent around a thousand dollars & HOURS of my time but i do not have a usable pool.
I have no idea what to do. I have read every website there is.
Currently my test are all normal except the chlorine stays at zero all the time. I have used an entire box of shock packets & i don't even know how many tablets. Already replaced filter twice because two have broken & the one i currently have doesn't work very well either. I can't get the air out of the vaccuum hose no matter what i do so theres air in the return. The pool is cloudy, bubbly, & full of dirt. It also leaks but everything is as tight as i can get it.
I dont understand what I'm supposed to do.
Should i just give up & sell it to someone that understands all.of this? Because that's where I'm at. I have spent my entire summer trying to get a functional pool & I'm sick of it.

I also have no idea how to use any of the chemicals. I know you have to keep ph balanced & all of that but how? How do you know the correct amount of anything to put in? I haven't seen that anywhere.

Re: I do not understand any of this

Sorry things are not going your way.

Please add your pool details to your signature as described HERE as it will help us help you.

How big of a pool are we talking about here?
What test kit are you using?

Please take a look at these in Pool School so we can talk the same language:
ABCs of Water Chemistry
Recommended Pool Chemicals
How to Chlorinate Your Pool

Just saw your added question. The answer is you use PoolMath to do the calculations for you. Enter your test results, enter your desire level, and bam it tells you what you need to add.

Note I also merged your 2 threads as we were already duplicating efforts and asking the same questions. Please keep all your questions in here for now.

Air in the return

Merged with "My Pool is a Disaster" to keep all information in one thread. Zea3

I know how the air got in the return. Its the vaccuum line. I can't get the air out of the vaccuum no matter what i do. Even when i think its all our another bubble appears.
Now the vaccuum isnt hooked up & the pool is filthy but the return is full of air. I followed all the trouble shooting methods online. Still air.
What can i do? And what do i do about the vaccuum situation?

How do you feel about draining your pool and starting over? One option with your pool size would be to try to follow the temporary / Seasonal Pool guide in pool school. Although I think it would be cheaper and easier to just get a proper test kit.

Idk what the pool guy used.

I probably will drain it but after 6 weeks of this i doubt i will start over.

Those test kits are $200. I ordered one but it won't be here for a while. Thats why I've used the pool store in addition to the cheap kits.
