Whoa! Wait a minute. You can't come slinkin' back in here with that drive-by-update empty handed. A six pack. Plate of chocolate chip cookies. Something. At least a picture or two, for cryin' out loud!! The new plants? The BBQ? The kids slidin' off the roof into the pool? Something!!
 
Lol - I actually pick up the new lounge chairs tomorrow - pics coming soon!

not only did we have the afternoon showers, but, after work today, I had to mow the lawn, test/adjust the sprinklers and clean the pool deck - pool furniture is finally ready for pickup!

These two chairs came in a few weeks ago.

So good to see you’re enjoying your beautiful pool! The work never ends but it’s all worth it.

Question about your FC? Was 8 just a number you decided is a good fit for your pool or is there some scientific reasoning behind it? My cya is also 80 and I have been trying to find a number I’m happy with since the recommended range is so large with a target of 6. Usually it sits at 7.5 with the cover on (we are in winter). Cover was off most of yesterday and now today I’m at 6.5 which is still fine. Just not sure how to determine my own target. Think I’m happy enough with 7.5 as it gives me a little wriggle room but not much. Will probably bring it up with LC tomorrow when the pump is on to at least 7.5.

honestly - it’s just where the pool with this equipment likes to be and it’s a safe number so I’m happy with it. My salt water chlorine generator is rated to 40,000 gallons and my pool is only 10,500 gallons - so I set the SWCG at 25% and it holds FC at 8.

That is what comes from knowing your pool and working with it. Find what it likes and go from there!

Something must have liked my crystal clear water last night...there was a large pile of brown gunk (i don't know what) in the corner of the sun shelf this morning (right behind the chair on the left in the picture above). :confused: FC was at 6 this morning and CC was at 0 - I don't think it was algae? Spent an hour to clean it up before work, but there is a brown mark where it was (hopefully doesn't stain). I set the pump to run all day and put the SWCG to "Super Chlorinate"...I don't have any liquid chlorine on hand.

Do you experts (kimkats/dirk) think I should pick up liquid chlorine and bring up to shock levels as a precaution??

(edit note) I am going to move this question to the pool care section..
 
I would pick up liquid chlorine and try to always have some on hand. I would also have a couple of sealed chlorine tablets for stains and such. You can rub or set for a couple of mins a tablet on the stain to help it go away. Brushing will also help.

Use liquid chlorine to push your FC up and your SWG to hold it up.

I always keep a gallon or two of LC on hand, there always seems to be a need. I've had mystery brown spots a few times, didn't do anything, they just faded away. Even after brushing didn't work. Just FC doing it's thing, over time. No guarantee, of course, in your case, but that's my total experience with that situation. And fits with my preferred MO: do nothing!

Kim, should he direct chlorine to that spot in some way? Or SLAM level? (That seem excessive, but we can't have a stain! No way!!).

Is it raccoons that poop in water like that? Them, or some equally disgusting animal. I think the bigger issue for you is figuring out what did that, and guarding against the reoccurrence. That could definitely become a regular occurrence if it is raccoon.

Thanks Kim - solid advice, as always. My common sense meter told me that I needed to get my chlorine level up no matter what it was. I'll stop to get liquid chlorine on my way home today, test to see what the SWCG did on super chlorinate all day and then adjust with the liquid as necessary. This is where it is really helpful to have a SWCG almost 4x the rated capacity of my pool. ;)

Note to self - always have liquid chlorine at the ready!
 
We have about 8 feral cats because the lady across the street from us feeds them - I see 2 of them drinking from our pool all the time. This was obvioulsy NOT cat droppings - unless the cat is pretty sick. We have also seen a decent sized black racer (snake) around the pool - I know snakes can have substantial dumps, especially if they have eaten a rat or two. I've never seen a racoon in my yard (front or back) - but I know they are in the neighborhood.

I bumped the sensitivity of my Ring camera's motion sensor - maybe I can get video of what is getting in the pool at night.

Great thanks! That’s pretty much how I came to my 7.5 lol. Just wondered if there was a more scientific method lol.

A pool cage will take care of any stray animals wanting to go swimming [emoji482]
 
Performing the OCLT tonight - in the mean time, enjoy the first pictures of the new chaise lounge chairs - including the landscaping we did about 3 weeks ago - now that the Seminole Pink Hibiscus are finally all blooming!! I need to build an arbor or pergola over the bougainvillea at the back of the pool and keep that thorny thing trimmed and trained! Next phase is replace the existing wood deck (before someone falls through) and build a covered bar area behind the chaise lounge chairs!
