From another post with green water I saw it suggested that my green water could be iron. I have well water and just refilled the pool after having the liner replaced. I put all the rest of my chemicals in yesterday and saw this today. My pH and TA are way off because I used washing soda for the first time and didn't account for the TA increase. Overshot on pH because I didn't add it over time and retest. Is iron my problem? I brushed the pool and nothing changed. It was clear yesterday before I put all my chemicals in.

FC .2
CC .2
PH 8+ but 3 drop acid demand brought to 7.5-7.8
TA 130
CH 50
CYA 80
Salt 2800

Will post pic as soon as I can link it.

Ok, I know it is iron. I remembered I had some Vit C tablets and was able to get the stains off the white steps, they look yellow upon close inspection.

What do I get to remove iron? Will this affect my pH and TA that I am needing to fix?

You can try filtering it out, but you have a large pool. Search Iron Filter using the search box in the upper right of this page.

Or you can use a sequestrant. Metal Magic by Proteam. You have to use an initial dose and then a maintenance dose as directed on the product.

I just saw this filter on that post! I have polyester batting and can do this. One additional question. The steps and vinyl look stained. Will using the iron filter fix that or do I need to use the metal stuff, OR additionally do I need to sue a stain remover?

Once the water is clear, you can do an ascorbic acid treatment to lift the stains, then add the sequestrant to keep any traces that are left from sticking again. First things first, clear the Iron you can see and get the pool balanced chemically. Enjoy it fir a few days before you worry about cosmetics.
