How do I reconnect hoses to pump & filter without getting soaked?

Well, start-up this year did not go well. My pump just hums . . . I have disconnected the hoses and I have the hoses tied up. I have checked out my pump problem -- wasps! Now, how do I reconnect the hoses without getting soaked? I disconnected the skimmer-to-pump hose at the pump, and the filter-to-pool hose at the filter. Am I just an idiot? I hope it's a simple answer . . . . sigh. Hate this time of year lol

Welcome to TFP!

A plumbing test plug will fill the holes on the pool end and stop water flow. If you have someone to help they can hold a tennis ball or racketball in the bottom of the skimmer and over the return port to stop the flow into the hoses.

Thanks! I have a screw-in plug for the skimmer although it apparently doesn't fit well enough to do the job properly. What can I use at the directional thingy (pardon my terminology lol) where the water returns to the pool? It's just me here . . . . sigh. Thanks so much for your help :)

The directional "eyeball" can be removed to fit a plug in there or, crazy as it sounds, you can carve a piece of potato to plug it. It won't seal it, but it will slow it to a trickle.
