Thanks - not worried about it not cleaning the steps, but my Racer will get stuck there and not clean the rest of the pool unless I intervene. I am out of town a lot, and come home to a leaf-filled pool and my Racer sitting nose-in to the steps, wheels spinning but not going anywhere.

Robots don’t do that because they are smarter. They “learn” the pool and know when they’re not moving forward and so they reverse themselves. The S series is very intelligently design and works amazingly well. If I were you I would consider the 300i as itvwill ghve you the App with all features activated. One feature is a customizable weekly schedule so that if you are out of town you can select what days and times you want it to clean. If you get the 300 unit, you only get to choose a weekly schedule where it cleans every other day or every third day. The 300i also has access to the other cleaning options such as Floor Only, UltraClean mode and other. The 300 does not.

I got the 300i because I wanted the full features of the App without grayed out functions. That would just annoy me to be teased with features I couldn’t access.

Thanks - ended up ordering the 300i as suggested. Great service from Marina - ordered at lunchtime, had tracking number within the hour and on its way by the end of day. Will arrive here Tuesday. Can’t beat that!

Nice! This thread is turning into the S300i owners thread ;) I had the same great experience with Marina. Once you register it, contact Maytronics to confirm your warranty is good for three years.

Hi, I purchased my Active 20 from Marina back in June (after following the recommendations from this thread). I love how it cleans and climb walls but have a constant (and annoying) cable tangling. Any recommendation in what I could do to solve for this? Maybe a swivel option I could install?.
Thanks!

went to Marina and looks I was not alone with this issue as a "New for 2018" cable with swivel is now available (Maytronics Dolphin 99958907-DIY Cable 18M with Swivel - $145.99 )...just another $145 on top of the $600 I paid for it less than a year ago.

It has to be professionally installed as it requires so specific tooling to get the seals right. You’d have to pay for it on your own dime as it’s not a warranty issue. So shipping + cord + labor....probably closer to $300 when all is said and done.

Does your cable twist in the same direction each time? When untwisting the cable add a few more turns to account for run time twists in the opposite direction. That way it doesn't get too twisted during the week.

So, with the 300i, I’ve watched a few videos of it in action, and all the videos I watched, showed it climbing the walls of tiled pools. How does this work on pebble tech surfaces? And also they showed it in rectangle pools, what about free form pools? What about benches, and tanning ledges, etc?

I’m starting to get tired of looking at the hose in my pool for the aquanaut, so I beginning to entertain the purchase of a robot cleaner.

Works the same as the videos in my PebbleTec freeform pool. It’s doesn’t get the steps or the shelf much (if ever) but, then again, no robot ever does.

I'm thinking of ordering the S200 or S300 tomorrow for my 45x20 in ground vinyl pool tomorrow. I get the advantage of the cart since it sounds like these robots are heavy but I do have a similar yard cart. I'm not going to leave it in the water all the time so I don't think the scheduling would be of much use. Maybe I'd put it in overnight to have the robot work it's magic.

Is there any advantage for me with the S300 over the S200? Any other robots I'm missing? It sounds like Marina is the best deal.

Check which filters it comes with. The S300i that I have has the ultra-fine filters as snap-in to the filter body frame and a coarse screen filter as a drop in so you get both levels of filtration at once. I think the S200 only comes with the coarse filter screens as snap-in to the filter canister frame and I'm not sure if the S300 is the same. Either way, you might want to consider both levels of filtration as the coarse screens are good at capturing big stuff and visible grit and sand but they will not do anything for silt or fine dust. If you just use the ultra-fine snap-in inserts without the coarse screen, then you run the risk of the big debris blocking up the fine pleated filter and dropping the the pump flow rate. If the filters get too clogged up, the robot will sense this and shutdown prematurely. The integrated filter basket gives you the best of both worlds while maintaining the most efficient possible flow rates.

Geez, do I sound like a S300i fan-boy or what

Replacing the cable looks like a DIY job. This guy does it with a screwdriver and channel locks. ...and DIY is in the part description on all the retail listings I see.

Cool video. Once my robot is out of warranty, I may have to try to add the swivel cord! I’m very careful with how I wrap my cord so I have no twisting issues at the moment but if it should ever get bad enough, the DIY route looks like the way to go.

Maytronics sells two versions of cable. In the part number it will either say "DIY" or "ASSY". The "DIY" cable comes with the seals and connectors already on it and is more expensive. The "ASSY" cable has no connectors on it and needs a 9991279 or 9991273 kit to be connected to the motor. To put on the connectors onto the cable properly you need a Crimpstar HF-1 crimper. Not every Dolphin machine has a DIY cable that will fit, only the newer ones like the A/S/M series cleaners.
