Bees and yellow jackets!!!

try a big fan or a couple of them, they seem less of a problem on breezy days for me. also a fountain or sprinkler might help too.

this is going to sound a little insane, but I have seen it with both harvester ants and domestic bees. they can learn to go to a different location but you have to be pretty relentless about keeping them off the one you don't want them to go. I have a huge bee problem in late May and June due to the pool being one of very few water sources for MILES. This year I left the cover on a lot more than last year and provided them with a wading pool. once they learned to go to the wading pool, very few venture up to the bigger pool. Wasps still come but they aren't as incompetent as bees. Wasps can land on water and take off. I swear bees are just half suicidal anyway and they seem to jump in on purpose. Of course none of them are ever grateful for rescue.

I know that is no help for you now but think about it for next year - get the alternative water out there before they start using the pool. they learn and tell the others where to go and once they are in the habit they pretty much continue in the same place. (which is why they are such a nuisance at the pool - they have learned and taught the other workers)

getting stung is a part of summer for me, but I still cuss a lot. LOL

I had this problem with honey bees last summer and here is what the USDA advises:

I think that is some good advice.

As for me I found the needle in the haystack yesterday. By following the 'bee line' through the woods I would up at my neighbors house, and saw they are now keeping bees. The bees were flying right over a creek to my pool. Between Saturday and Sunday I killed about 50 bees around the pool. This morning I didn't see any. I did start 'dusting' the area around my spa where it spills over to the pool (where the bees seem to be congregating the most) with borax to see if it may help break the cycle.
