New Pool + Cabana + Putting Green - Lucas, TX

Kiddos having fun in unfiltered water. Take a look... still 3-4" to go. But nobody could wait.

PB was here today for partial start up (can't turn on filter until water gets to skimmers). He threw in some acid to bring down Ph. They will start filter and add chlorine on Monday.

As you can see the waterfall and weeping wall work (from my phone). I also played with the nicheless lights and all 8 of them fired up!

Also the PB is doing all the brushing. It's in my contract.

So pretty!! Congrats! Also so funny how differently northerners and southerners look at shade on the water. I cringe when I see shade on a pool. But I can appreciate the consistent heat and need/desire for shade on the water..

Keep a close eye on the pH, those water features will push it up fast. Probably need to check it every day for a while and only run the waterfalls when people are out there. It'll be handy for lowerng TA when the time comes, Pool School - Lower Total Alkalinity.

The PB owns maintenance of the pool for the next two weeks. After that either I take over or I hire a weekly service.

This morning they came and got the filter pump going and turned on the waterfall. I was at work so didn't get a chance to talk to them, but I called later and was told they added chlorine to the pool. I also see that they left some in the feeder. Then the brusher came by later and did a test... he left a paper on the door showing the results (see below)...

I know that pH of 7.0 is too low. In fact I swam in the pool tonight for a few minutes and could tell it was too low.

I have no idea what Cl of 2.0 means on that report. I've read the Pool School stuff and don't see "Cl" referenced anywhere.

The filter pump and waterfall have been going all day. The PB didn't leave me instructions to turn it off so does that means he wants it left on all night? The filter pump is currently at 3,450 rpm. Is that considered fast or slow? Safe to leave it on? What about waterfall? Leave it on all night to raise pH? It's kinda loud! Lots of water pouring over that table rock!

When I asked the PB service dept about my low pH they said not to worry, that it takes several days to stabilize everything and the pH would likely go up all by itself.

This pic was taken this morning at 11am after they got the filter going and added chlorine...

This note was left just before 2pm by the scrubber (who also tested the water). Note the levels. What is Cl...?

This pic was taken at 7pm (my daughter has some friends over to break the pool in)

It is going to be a "fight" to keep the PH down for a while for two reasons.....the plaster is curing which pushing PH up and everyone is going to want the water features going and that pushes PH up.

It is important you keep the PH between 7.2 and 7.8 as much as possible.

Nice to see the pool is getting broke in the right way.........friends having a good time!

Just now see the one kid flying in the air. Where did he jump from for that height? Kid's got skill!

Haha, I was wondering if anybody was going to notice that. He dove off the table rock towards the deep end.

PB came back today. No clue what time, but according to the note he left, he dumped 2lbs of chlorine in the pool (shock) and instructed us to stay out for 4 hours. Of course, he neglected to note the time he was here so...

Also, Ph still reads 7.0

"stay out 4 hours" and no time given  Good thing you have your own test kit! I am sure the reason he wanted you to stay out was the high level of FC.

Had your PH gone up at all?

That fella must have springs in his legs to get that far up and out

This really turned out great! Wish we would have had it in the budget to add a rock water feature that looks great. I am also envious of the cabana. We are adding a 10x20 pergola to extend our covered area by the house but I wish we would have done it more like yours to shade the pool a bit.

A bit more progress this week...

Look closely at the cabana... still no rain wall in this pic cuz PB took longer than expected to connect the plumbing. As a result front posts still not wrapped, but the roof is on!!

Then yesterday the plumbing crew showed up to hook up the rain wall... and BOOM! A few hours later and I can make it rain with the touch of a button on my phone!

SWEET!!!! I bet it lowers the temp in there quite a bit!!! I noticed the roof being done right way!

When will they do the back wall?

Kim:kim:

Kim, you're like me... I feel like I'm constantly nagging, "When is it going to be done??!!"

The big hold up was the plumbing. The cabana builder didn't want to come back to finish the back wall until he could wrap those front posts at the same time. But he couldn't wrap the posts until the plumbing was complete. So I expect it to all happen early this week.

The cabana builder also wired the entire thing for electrical. It's "roughed in" now for a ceiling fan/light as well as an outlet up in the eves so we can run strands of lights. The fan and twinkle lights are all run to switches hiding on the back of the rear post. There's also an outlet hiding behind that post for the landscape lighting transformer box that I plan to mount behind the wall. From that location I can run low voltage wiring all over the yard. If you look closely you'll see an outlet hanging down for the tv, which will be mounted on the back wall.

Today I've been researching outdoor speakers. Trying to figure out the best way to do this. More on that later...

8/1 - Landscaping begins
8/14 - Putting green installation begins
