Water clear but a film with debris visible at surface

Hi,

So my chem levels are pretty balanced. I maintain the pool pretty well.

Water is crystal clear.

However, when I look at the surface of the water on an angle with the sun shining on it, I see 'see through film with tiny white/grey/translucent..."debris" floating. I cant really describe it. Its not foam or anything...water is clear. Its just a translucent film with little particles or something in it.

Ive tried running the filter over night and I think at one point it ran for about 36-40 hours straight. It might have reduced this stuff a little bit.

Its hardly noticeable unless you are looking really hard for it, which I always do :). Unable to pick it up with a standard pole skimmer.

Any ideas?

Pollen? Oils? Some kind of surfactant from a liner or chemical used?

I sometimes use the hairnets (or a cotton shirt might work) popular around here around my skimmer net and it does a good job. If it's oils from something like sunscreen, one of these does a good job of picking it up: https://www.amazon.com/Rola-Chem-Scumbug-Oil-Absorbing-Sponge/dp/B003ZJZ8N2.

Honestly, the pool hasn't gotten a ton of use (not since last sunday).

Maybe pollen but I think we are beyond the heavy part of the pollen season. but youre saying a cotton t-shirt would work? Just some how attach it to the skimmer poll and move it around the pool as if I were skimming?

Wrap it around the existing skimmer net and use something to fasten it to where it doesn't fall off. It won't work for everything, but cotton seems to do a good job at picking up stuff a skimmer net won't. The suggestion of a silt leaf net would be good too.

And don't discount the scumbug; I tend to get lots of microscopic surface debris but those things seem to do a great job at keeping it clearer. (and giving spiders a nice landing platform, unfortunately).
