Pool Math........The App

The apple version is 64 bit correct. Seems 32 bit won't be supported in IOS 11

Yes it will be. Apple has been making it VERY clear to developers for some time now to use 64bit. In fact, they've required every App since 2015 to be 64bit.

As for Android,
Yes, there will be an android version with all the bells and whistles you see in iOS. One of our main goals with the App is to make sure you can access the same data and experience regardless of operating system or device you're on. If you see a neat option on iOS, it'll be on android too. It may look slightly different, but it'll do the same thing. The ONLY reason you're seeing screenshots of iOS only is simply because.......I'm an iOS only user. :) As Danny said, once the iOS version is approved we'll put the finial spit shine on Android and push them both out to all.

I've been reluctant to give any feature suggestions other than bugs, because I know getting the app ready for release is first priority. However, in previous post you mentioned you are taking a list.

For most part, all the suggestions I have been mentioned by others. Primarily, having a place to log chemical additions. I do have another suggestion that I don't think has been mentioned. For pool temp it would be beneficial for me to be able to log it as a daily range. For example, yesterday my morning pool temp was 82 and by end of day it was 86. This morning it was 82 again. I know temp changes CSI, so seeing CSI for bottom and top of range is helpful.

Thanks

All I can say is that I hope the bells and whistles that the iOS folks are getting will prove to be valuable because pool pal does everything at no price compared to my Android beta system
Well, Pool Pal has also not been updated in over 3 years ... PoolMath certainly has and will continue to be. ;)

If pool pal works for you, then use it. Nobody will force you to use the subscription version of Pool Math, or the free version for that matter.

It's not just a limited application for Android......it's also limited for iOS as well for all the Beta testers. I fully admit there are other App's out there that are doing exactly what PoolMath is doing currently. I'll admit right now we don't have all the newest features in the App. That wasn't what we were really wanting from this Beta program. Our goal was simply stability. We wanted to make sure we don't ruin your experience by pushing out an App that crashes all the time. We wanted to make sure the App ran fine on your device and we iron all the bugs out now. That's part of the reason why I'm still greatly sorry for the crash that lost members data. We don't want that to EVER happen. We learned alot from this Beta (including from the data loss) that will really push the App forward when we start pushing out builds with all of the newest features that everybody really wants. Once we're past this first roadblock of getting the App into the store I think you'll really enjoy using the App as we've got some really neat stuff in store. Again though, if what we're building isn't of value to you please.....push us with your feedback to make sure it becomes of value to you!

Ok guys, as someone on the inside with some insight into what the app is going to have feature-wise, the initial release is going to set the stage for some incredibly cool features. You all just need to be patient. It's going to be EPIC!!!

And, try to remember, this is essentially two guys in their parents basement in their pajamas developing this app fueled by nothing more than Mountain Dew Code-Red and generic brand "nacho cheese" chips (think store-brand Doritos). This isn't an app shop with 500 developers banging out code all day and greasing Apples palms to let their apps in more quickly. The progress made on this app in less than one year's time is PHENOMENAL when you consider this wasn't even a thing this time last season.

Breath.....Ohhhhhmmmmmmm....Breath....Ohhhhhhmmmm.....everyone now......breath.....Ohhhmmmmmmmmmmmm......

Beta Program is now closed... Thanks and Moving forward!

Hello everyone, I want to say thank you again to all of those who have tested the Pool Math beta on iOS and Android, and have provided valuable feedback.

If you've been following along you'll have seen we've had to wait longer than we expected for Apple and the IRS to approve things so the app can be in the store. In the meantime we've been hard at work fixing bugs, and implementing a couple of the most requested features:

  • TroubleFreePool.com Login
  • Data Backup / Export
We will be rolling out one more update to the Android and iOS betas shortly which will enable the ability to Export all of your data (in fact you will be greeted with a screen and a giant button to help you do that). Once the app is released in the iOS and Android App Stores, you will be able to login with any account you'd like (which will include TFP account). After you've logged in you can open the backup you made from the beta version in the new app to import all your old Pool Configurations and Test Logs.

Again, just to be clear: Your data from the Beta apps will NOT be automatically migrated over for you.

Additionally, we will support exporting and importing of .CSV files for Test Log data. This will give all users who have been tracking their results in Excel a chance to combine all data and migrate the information into PoolMath. In our testing it took 5 minutes of work (@Leebo timed it himself) to enter 2.5 years worth of data into the App.

Questions:

How long will the Beta continue to work for?
We don't have a firm shutdown date yet, but the beta apps will continue to work for at least a week or two after the app is available in the app stores.

Where should I save my backup to?
When you choose to backup, you'll be prompted to save/share/open the file in another app. One really easy way to use this is to simply send it to your email app as an attachment and email it to yourself. That will make it easy to lookup and open later too. Another option is to send it to Dropbox or OneDrive.

Can I still use the beta?
Yes, you can use the beta while you wait for the app store version. Just make sure to backup your data before installing the app store version so everything you've entered can be restored.

What happens if I forget to Backup before installing the app store version?
You should be able to uninstall the app store version and reinstall the beta version to see your old data and perform a backup.

What format is the backup file in?
The backup file is named with a .poolmathbackup extension, but is just a plain text file of JSON describing all of the objects in your database. You can do whatever you like with this data :)

What format will the .CSV need to be in for importing?
We tried to make the .CSV importer somewhat flexible, but there are a few rules that you must follow. The easiest way to see the format is to export your current data by selecting the pool you want to export test logs for, going to the Settings (the cog/gear in the top right corner of the main screen), and then scrolling all the way to the bottom and tapping the "Export All Test Logs" button.

Some of the rules for .CSV imports are:

  • There must be 1 header line with column names
  • Dates must be entered in a consistent format, ideally yyyy-MM-dd hh:mm:ss
  • Try to use the column names used in the export file (although FC, F.C., Free Chlorine etc should all work)
  • Fields cannot have a mixture of numbers/text for fields that should be numbers (eg: FC) - these lines will fail to import

Overall, you can load a file up, and it should show you which lines will fail, and a rough reason of why before they are actually imported.

This update is available via TestFlight for iOS or on the Google Play store for Android. Before downloading please logout of the App to avoid a login confliction.

The build as Jon mentioned contains the ability to backup your data, export your test results as a csv file and multiple other user interface updates. Additionally we hope users how have been tracking their pools via Excel spreadsheets take the opportunity to import the data into PoolMath from their Excel spreadsheets. This update is another building block for PoolMath and we hope it's one you find beneficial.

Appears newest update in Test Flight for iOS doesn't run properly. It hangs on the blue swimming pool splash screen. If you then double tap home you can see another instance open and force close it. Still it never opens.

Same here. iOS 10.3.2

When I double tapped home to see if it would open from the background, it was a dead screen, nothing worked to selects logs, settings, etc.
