I have a 18 by 33 above ground pool. I have grainy grayish dust that appears on the floor. It started at the end of last swimming season. I kept putting chemicals in the vacuuming and it would return. I closed pool giving a very thorough clean. I just opened pool back up 6 days ago and the dust has re appeared. I have ran out of ideas of what it is and how to make it go away and stay away. It is very frustrating. Please help!!!

This is a tough time of year for dust and pollen in my area, everything outside is covered in it, when the pump is off I can see it all floating on the surface of the pool water. Any chance that this is what you are experiencing?

Many times a gray/brown 'dust' will be noticed collecting in areas on the pool floor. This dust will seem to 'poof' away when brushed, and will return despite attempts at removal. This 'dust' would most certainly be dead algae collecting on the floor, while the remaining live algae spores continue to reproduce, some dying off and collecting on the floor. Eventually the algae will win and overpower the chlorine, unless you intervene.

Could you post a complete set of recent test results and tell us how you test and chlorinate the pool?

I have been testing with reg test strip but I am going to order a good test kit today. When I do test I will post results but what you explained is exactly what's going on with my pool. It's there then clouds away when brush or vacuumed then it resettled. Thanks for your response!

I am curious as to what this is also. I have had this issue the past 2 summers and suspect that algae is growing on top of the solar cover in the overlapping seams of the cover from rain water laying there. I plan to spray the top of the cover with a bleach/water solution this year and see if that works.
