Or this? Too many grout lines? Or just weird?

I LOVE this one! It would be SO interesting BUT what about the plaster? Can they work with the uneven bottom line?

I DO like the glass one. I think it would be a good blend of bling and soft contrast.

That's a question I had not thought of ... not sure. I guess I would need to ask my PB.

THANKS Kim!!

I like the glass tiles much better personally and think they will go well with your planned coping. I just don't think you can beat glass tiles. Not to mention, if a tile or two pops off, modular-style tiles are much easier to replace than odd-shaped ones. Also, the grout is the weak link in the system and there will probably be much more grout with the wonky tiles (more likely to stain also). The mesh backing is also not a good idea. As an aside, the glass tiles look like they might be manufactured by Lotus. You might ask NPT who manufactures them as Classic Pool Tile in Atlanta also sells Lotus tiles and might give you a better deal. Just a thought.

Thank you Pushin! I sent 5 pics of the tiles I was thinking about to my family (I have twin 20 year old daughters, 18 yo daughter, 17 yo son and a hubby). The glass tile won in a landslide!

I have not heard of Lotus tiles so I will definitely check that option out!

What color grout would you use with the glass tiles?

You also need to think about is the mortar under it. You can get gray, light gray, off white, or white. Each color will change how the tile looks. They make grout stick samples you can use to see what color of grout you like the best. Of course share the pics here so we can help!

I think the glass tiles you selected are manufactured by Lotus. Ask National Pool Tile and call Classic Pool Tile in Atlanta. Classic has great prices and shipping in Georgia will be cheap.

I would do white mortar under those tiles and it needs to be acceptable for glass tiles. Laticrete and Bostik both make thin-set for glass tiles. I'd use Laticrete Spectralock grout if you can as well as it is an epoxy grout and will not absorb water and is less likely to stain. That said, sometimes you are at the mercy of the installers, but I'd try to control that as much as possible as glass tiles can be finicky if not installed properly.

Love the tile you have in your pics YankeeLawyer! The pic from manufacturer looks so much lighter. From that pic it didn't seem like it would fit with her flagstone coping but your pics look amazing. What color grout did you use?

We had a similar design challenge for our pool, set on a working farm in a rural area. The house is an old farmhouse (circa 1810). We did opt for pebbletec with glass beads, and glass waterline tile in a color called "ice", which is as neutral as glass could be. It is very pale green iridescent glass but when installed just reflects the surrounding colors (pool water and coping). While it sparkles, the overall effect is very subtle. FWIW, we initially had installed slate waterline tile and replaced it because it looked really blah on our pool.

Also, are you planning to install colored LED lights? If so, the colors show up better on light and medium colored pools.

Yankee - what color is your pebble etc? TIA!

Welcome to TFP!! Your design is so pretty and very classy looking! You definitely need some sparkle and bling! I love the color of the tile you chose. My two cents- be careful of competing colors. Decide what you want to be the "star" and pick everything else as complimentary. I went with an irridescent glass tile on my spa and my plaster color is very closely tied to it. Everything else is shades of neutral, making my glass tile and complementing plaster/water color the stars.

I'm a little bit late to the pool party but the setting and shape of your pool looks beautiful! I'm using arctic ice myself so I'm partial to glass tile. Have you thought of a dark blue glass tile same arctic line but just different color? Like ocean with a dark grout line - it would be subtle but sparkly.
