Mine does fairly well on the walls. It doesn't get 100% each time but it does get portions. I usually run if for 2 or 3 cycles (depending on the debris load and how much dirt the wind is blowing in), so it does get most. I still have to brush the tanning ledge, stairs benches and spa, so hitting the waterline tiles and the walls just takes a few more minutes. No biggie IMO.

Nursenini, which cleaner do you have?

I'd be curious to hear from someone who has the Saturn (S100). Seems like it has most of the Discovery (S200) features except it has a filter bag. Doheny's has the refurb for $480 which is a great price point. Only 1-year warranty, though.

Saturn has the same basket as the Discovery/S-series. No bag.

I currently have a Zodiac MX6. Recently I've found it stalled sitting in the pool requiring me to drag it in and spin the propeller and then it runs again. I think it's some really fine sand getting stuck in the gearing or bearings, but I've broke it down and gave it a good cleaning. It's running better but still is occasionally stopping. I've begun to look at a reasonably priced robotic so that brings me to my question.

Any input on the Doheny XLS? Found it for $249 (discounted return) which is about half the regular price. Comes with 2 year warranty. My pool is in screen enclosure so no leaves. My walls hasn't needed much brushing, I do it weekly and have found no evidence of any issues (thanks to the knowledge I picked up here on how to maintain my pool). If not the Doheny XLS, what are some other robotics I should consider?

I was at my local pool supply store today and they ordered a handful of Pentair Prowler 920's, including one for me. This looks equivalent to the Discovery. They were asking $775, but I bought all my equipment from them so they cut me a deal for $700. 2 year warranty. My pool isn't finished yet, so I'll pick it up when I'm ready for it.

Sounds like we're in the same boat. With the screen enclosure, I would only run my Polaris once a week, and even then it wasn't a heavy clean. I would go months sometimes without cleaning out the bag. I brush the walls maybe once a month at most during the high season, and never during the winter. I recently replaced my cartridge filter with a DE filter that does a great job filtering the water. I feel like I don't need a top-of-the-line cleaner, but I also don't want to cheap out.

Anyway, the XLS is a re-branded Aquabot Breeze XLS. It gets mixed reviews (here and here), but they overall appear to be more negative than other cleaners. I am thinking I probably want to stay away from this one.

Yep, not a heavy clean at all on a regular basis. Maybe due to the size of my filter but after 3 months the pressure barely has moved. I backwash because I should not because there is any indication I need to. Only had one a couple heavy cleans where I could actually see the path that was being cleaned as the vac moved across the bottom and that was due to ground clearing for new development behind me. High winds blew silt and sand, the really fine stuff since it made it through my screen enclosure. I think that's what caused my problem with my current vac.

Like you, I don't want to go cheap, but I don't want to overspend either. The XLS doesn't seem like a good long term vac, thanks for the links. Think I'll wait and see if there are any decent sales for Memorial day.

I'm leaning heavily toward the Saturn based on the features and price point. It can't be worse than the very old Polaris that it's replacing (which generally did a fine job despite it's constant problems). I'll report back once I get it and it's been through a few cleaning cycles.

I had looked at that too, the one year warranty was a bit concerning as other bots seem to come with 2 year.

Well, I'm happy to report my new Doheny Dolphin Discovery model is climbing my ledge, steps and up to the waterline on my fiberglass pool! We were worried about the short ledge that runs around the pool as well as the stairs.

We're sitting here just trying to figure out its logic in how it runs around the pool..... is it random? I dunno..

Our old Polaris "Pablo" has been retired and we've named this one "MoonRover"...or "Moonie" for short.

Skippy was leery at first, then said he'd be pleased if it did 70% of the pool and we'd still have to touch up some spots. I think it is going to out perform that 70%. Yay!

Yeah sorta random. They say they have an algorithm and it figures out all this stuff for full coverage and minimum cord twisting but I don't think Gilligan paid attention in robot algorithm class. :) But, he does a great job anyway! :thumleft:

I was waiting for these to go on sale but then noticed you can get the Nautilus Pro (with "CleverClean") for $659 or maybe even a bit less if you look around, so I ordered one of those.

Pretty much same cleaner, right? In fact seems the newer Nautilus Pro may have a few more features. Anyone know of any real differences?

I'm helping on a pool with a Maytronics robot, and wondering about the cord tangling. It needs untangling every time. I noticed in the manual that you're supposed to lay the cord out in the sun for a few hours with no "twist" tension before using the robot in the pool. The owner didn't lay it out straight in the sun before using the robot, so I'm wondering if that would have helped?

As far as the promised precise pattern, it seems to me that the circulation in the pool pushes the robot off it's long straight runs, and/or causes it to run a curved path if the cord gets pushed by the water movement. I checked and it's not stealing any airline bottles of Crown from my test kit. It does a good job either way, but leaves me curious.

Needsajet- its not too late. My manual calls for the cord to be laid out straight in the sun occasionally.
