Replacing lights while replastering

Hi Everyone! Quick question concerning light replacement. We're about to replaster our pool and are going to change out the lights at the same time (as they havent worked in a year). Company doing the replaster quated us $2,800 to replace with two white pentair lights. Does this seem excessive? I think we want multi-color lights anyway, and I see them for sale on pool equipment websites for $500-$600 each. Thanks!

What is there reason for being so expensive? Are they running new conduit? Are they replacing the entire fixture or replacing just the bulbs?

Not sure what was exactly included in that...
Light Options:
Install 2 new Low Voltage Pentair White-LED light (If lights are pullable) $ 2,800.00

This is all that was listed on the estimate.

"If lights are pullable", that tells me no new conduit, but a removal, and replace the fixture and cord. It's also the out if they are not "pullable", then they'd have to replace the conduit also. Replacing the conduit would require significantly more work, dig a trench, remove old conduit, and install new conduit. Is there a concrete deck?
I wonder if the subcontract it out?

Personally I'd get a second estimate, but I'm also pretty frugal.

Yeah, a second estimate is in order. Do some home work on the type of lights that you want and get another company to cost it out for you. Get a clear understanding as to the scope of their work as bobo states above. $2800 is too high.

Yep.. get at least 2 more quotes.

Luckily you are asking about this upfront. Sometime you contract a great price only to find change orders to be sky high. In this case I think they are charging you about $1800 for lights (40-50% markup) and $1k labor.

And also try this on that original bid.. ask them how much if you had the lights and they just needed to do the labor while they are prepping and plastering anyways.

Thank very much for the thoughts. I think I'm going to suggest that I've got the lights and just need labor. i would like to have just one person do the replaster, tile cleaning, and light replacement, but not if it means being taken advantage of. I kind of expected that it would be a better "deal" on lights since I was choosing them for plaster work and they could do at the same time. Thanks again!
