Doheny's Discovery, S200, Active20, Triton owners club

Re: Doheny's Discovery, S200, Active20, Triton owners club

I thought about the caddy, but it takes up more room than the robot. Robot stores nicely with cord rolled. To me less of a hassle than a caddy. At least for me.

You don't need the caddy as long as you make sure that it's not stored directly on its rollers.

Thing is with me, mine spends most of his time in the pool. I'll be running it all year long.

My water is 38 and I still run it, I intend on running it all winter.

Yay!! That is SUPER news! Water is 40's and that aluminum pole gets awful cold in my hands skimming leaves. Wall-E is going in first thing in the morning!

Re: Doheny's Discovery, S200, Active20, Triton owners club

pooldv, I know you have a lot of leaves, as do I. I have days during wind when I have to empty my skimmers twice just so my pump can keep suction. Cousin Eddie, like Gilligan works his tail off. Not sure what I would do without him. Temp is 39 and my pool is absolutely crystal clear, SWG kept running till ~45 degrees .....and NO SCALE! [emoji41]

How often are you guys brushing during the winter? Are you brushing just the waterline, sides, steps, benches and shelves? Or are you also brushing the floor?
I have been lax on brushing since getting Wall-E and have NOT been doing the floor. I have only brushed a handful of times in the last couple of months. As I mentioned earlier, that pole gets COLD! I haven't tried gloves- I'll probably drop the pole in the pool.

Re: Doheny's Discovery, S200, Active20, Triton owners club

Since I've got Cousin Eddie, I only brushed sidewalls once and the bottom once (and not a very good job on the floor) I am not saying that is sufficient, but that's all I've done. I would think with the cold weather, if you did the walls, ledges stairs and such once a month you would be good ...the robot should do the floor plenty good from what I can see. I'm thinking with the colder water, monthly should be sufficient. My water is as clear as it's ever been. But then, I am a first year owner so I would listen to the pros. I am in the Okc area so close to the same climate as you.

I rarely brush during winter. One of the main reasons for the recommended weekly brushing is to make sure that algae doesn't get a foothold and algae really can't grow in cold water. I'm counting on Gilligan for most of the brushing. I do brush the shelf, benches and steps.

Re: Doheny's Discovery, S200, Active20, Triton owners club

I have had this discovery for a few months. I have a question, the quick clean or the other functions are not working on mine, is this normal? The only function that works is me being able to set it to run every day or every 2 days etc. Sometimes I want to get the pool clean quick and do the 1 hour floor cleaning only, not sure if its possible or if I have a defective unit

Doheny Discovery, S200 and Active 20 do not have the quick clean function. The power supply/ control unit is shared with the Active 30 and S300 models but do not allow the extra functions. You are stuck with a single 2 hour cycle.

If you want quick clean, take it out after an hour. My biggest complaint is that it doesn't run long enough.

Re: Doheny's Discovery, S200, Active20, Triton owners club

I just found this thread and have read it entirely. Question, can I keep it in the saltwater pool permanently and have it set to run daily? Of course that means it would need to be plugged in all the time. Is this correct? Currently I have Polaris280 and the motor/pump is toast, It is kept in the pool all the time, I just swim around it. Trying to decide whether to replace motor pump with the Pentair LAMS05 or Pentair LA01N or switch to robot. I really don't think I can handle putting a cleaner in and out on a daily basis (physical limitations). If a robot is plugged in, is it safe to swim while it cleans? Sorry for the randomness of my questions and appreciate any and all advice, suggestions, whatever.

Re: Doheny's Discovery, S200, Active20, Triton owners club

Yes, it can be left in the pool . It has a weekly timer and can be set to run daily or 3 or 4 times per week. It is safe to swim, the power supply lowers the voltage to 24v. I leave mine in and running daily right now. I'll probably reduce the frequency once the leaves are finished.

Re: Doheny's Discovery, S200, Active20, Triton owners club

The unit does not have a swivel for a reason, they break as I just found out on my slightly over 2 year dolphin. Looking seriously at this one now.

Amail, that one star review concerned me initially but As I recall it was mostly due to the Amazon description saying that the unit had an anti-swivel device when in fact, it does not have one. If you look at the description on Dohenny's it doesn't claim to have the anti-swivel as one of its features. I am not sure why the Amazon description is not accurate (at least it was still wrong the last time I looked at it about 2 weeks ago.

I've been using the unit for a couple of weeks and I haven't had any cord management issues, just FYI.

Only issue I am seeing is the rubber flaps that surround the suction on my cleaner are already missing a few pieces. Anyone else seeing this? Located on the bottom center of robot around suction opening.

Re: Doheny's Discovery, S200, Active20, Triton owners club

I bought a Dolphin S-100 and they had a promotion that gave the Ultra Fine filter basket. I absolutely swear by it.
the first time I used it, my pool already looked sparklingly clear but when It finished it's 2 hr cycle, the filter basket was grey from all the fines it. I was amazed all it captured.
I also like that it is a self contained unit and all the debris and fines are captured in the onboard filter basket, that translates into less backwashing because none of it ever gets to your mail filter.
Every time you backwash, you can alter your water chemistry.
It takes just a few minutes to launch it and a few minutes to rinse it out after a cycle.
You are correct not to buy the 200 or 300, you will not use the remote nor do you need it.
I have looked many times at what is on the bottom before a cycle and then look after, I have yet to see where it missed debris on the bottom plus it climbs and washes the walls.........the best thing I ever did was get this robot.

After a few months, It took 5-15 minutes to get the Power Supply to turn on. I e mailed Maytronics, no questions asked, they said I needed a new Power Supply and it was in my hand in about 10 days, now I just touch the button and it lights up immediately.

good luck with yours, no matter which model you choose.
