What would cause the hose coming off my pool heater to burst, I have a 1.5 horsepower pump. My gas pool heater is a raypak.

Hey CG and Welcome !!!!

I've never been to your house before. How about some pics to bring me up to speed with what you're dealing with?

Did it burst at the clamp connection or mid hose ?

More info would help. Which pump? Pictures are better. Hose does not have the burst-strength of pipe. Add the heat from a heater and it is even softer.

It seems weird to me that the seam is Ok when that's a more common fail point. But as said above, hoses aren't as robust as PVC, so it happens.

Pool heaters should be plumbed with schedule 40 PVC, either rigid or flex, but not above-ground pool hose. A mis-turned valve, slight blockage after the heater, someone backing up to the pool return while in the pool can cause that very flimsy material to do what is seen in the picture.
