Hi! We have a salt water pool. We moved into this home in February of this year. Our aqua plus says chlorinator off test salt level. The reading is 900 ppm on the display. We have not added salt yet as we’re not sure what this message means. I can’t find anything in the manual. The previous owners say the cell is three years old. The cell looks clean. Help!

Welcome to pool ownership.
The first thing you need to do is get a salt test kit and see what your levels are. Taylor makes a kit ( K-1766 ) that not too expensive and works great.
I wouldn't add any salt until you see what your current levels are at.

I thought that 16 V was the voltage.

Can you show the inside of the door to the aquaplus with the model number and the serial number and a picture of the cell with the model number and the serial number?

What is the actual salinity and how are you measuring it?

Check diagnostics.

Here are the details splays and the cell

The cell was made on the 282nd day of 2015 (October 9 2015 Friday), which is almost 8 years old.

Cells typically last about 5 to 7 years, so the cell is probably dead.

The other numbers look good, so I would replace the cell with a new T-15.

The previous owners say they put it in three years ago and was confirmed with the pool agent that installed it. Isn’t the lifespan based on use not when it was manufactured? How do you come up with that date? Thank you.

I don't believe it was installed 3 years ago.

What exact day was it installed?

Show me a receipt or work order with the date of installation.

In any case, you can clean the cell if it is scaled to see if that helps.

Also, a cell can fail in 3 years.

If the cell is clean, you probably need a new cell.

Some stores have a testing station that will test the cell.

Bring the cell and a water sample to the store to have both tested.

Contact Hayward to ask them when the system was installed.

When a system is installed, it gets registered with Hayward for warranty including the installation date.

I’m curious as how you came to the date in 2015, for future reference. Thank you.

The salt system was installed in 2015, but the cell was replaced three years ago, per the pool company. I don’t have receipts as I just acquired the property in Feb of this year. I understand cells can fail at anytime. The cell does look clean. I’m just curious how you came to to the 2015 date for the salt cell.

The cell was made 6 days before the system.

In my opinion, the cell in the picture is the original cell.

If the cell was replaced, it's not this cell.

Where is the new cell?

The seller should have the original serial number of the replacement cell.
