Changing sand in Hayward filter question

I had air leaking into my system on the inlet side. After much searching it turned out to be a bad jandy divertor valve. It was actually due to a defective valve. When they drilled the threads where the handle mounts, they drilled too deep and pierced into the housing of the valve, so air was being sucked in via the thread portion of the valve. In my case air would only get sucked in when the pump ran on high. I had my pump switch to high twice a day so over a few days my pump would lose suction due to the air.

If you are seeing air in the pump you have a leak somewhere on the inlet side.
