More pics of progress. I hope to get the liner in on Saturday. Weather is supposed to be low 80s. Couple of questions-
1. I hired out the poolcrete bottom and I am happym with it all except the shallow area. It is very wavy and held water in several places after a light rain. I feel like this will show after the liner is installed and allow dirt/debris to settle in these low areas. I was thinking of troweling some hydraulic cement in to smooth out some of the worst areas. Is this a bad idea? By the way the bottom mix was 60/40 sand to portland cement hauled in by truck.
2. I am planning to install wall foam on the bottom of shallow end as well. Is this a bad idea? Anyone out there wish they had done this or wish they hadn't?

Thanks again. Wish me luck on the liner install. I am doing all this for the first time and this feels like a big step in the process.

If you did want to have the liner in early you could setup a stand alone pump and filter and drop a suction line and a return in the water as far apart as you could manage. This need not be the best filter/pump - maybe an Intex cheapie off Craigslist.

However the best approach is probably to keep it as you have it until you have the equipment done.

Ok thanks. Here is my concern. Since I am doing most of the work by myself, after work and weekends, I am afraid that my window of warm weather will pass before I can get everything else ready. If so, can the pool go liner-less all winter if there is not a day warm enough for the install? What temp is too cold to install liner?

If you are really worried you could also just build a temp roof and tarp it.

The sun is what helps the most on a liner install. I believe the optimal temp is around 70-80 but can be done probably down to 60 if you had a cloudless sunny day if done when you have full sunlight on the pool. Others might have better advice.

When my liner was installed I didn't have all the plumbing done and it sat for a week with about a foot of water in the shallow before backfill. Didn't seem to hurt the liner or walls any but time will tell I guess.

When you get done you will breath a sigh of relief. Then you will have the fence and all the landscaping. I have about half of my fence done right now (custom built 6ft privacy fence) then I start our gazebo and hope to have that done this year. I don't think I will know what to do next year when all I have to do is enjoy the pool.

GL on the rest of your build!

Looking forward to that "sigh of relief". I tend to sweat the small stuff too much. At the end of the day, I should try to enjoy the install process and consider myself very blessed to be able to do all this. Just don't want to screw anything up you know?

Pool steps made by ALPS. They look even better in person. My only concern is keeping them clean due to their texture. They do not have a slick finish, more of a gritty texture. At least I slip and fall after a few cold ones!
Lines tested and ready for backfill. Gonna install my coping stone before liner though. It will be much easier and warmer to stand in the pool for parts of that process and a wetsuit is definitely not in the budget!
