How deep is the water? -basic question

If we get a 52" high pool, how deep can we expect the water to be? I'm guessing it would be 46" or could it be deeper than that?

Water is usually 48 inches deep on a 52 inch pool.

Our pool varies from 46" to 48" depending on how high I keep the water. 48" is right at the top of the skimmer.
