    Pump to Pool Distance

Is there a big downside to moving the pump and filter away from the pool? In my case it would be about 35 feet away.

Not really. The biggest impact to head loss is the number of fittings and the equipment. Straight lengths of pipe are the least impactful. However, it could be a problem with an AG pump depending on which one.

You can always use a larger diameter pipe to offset any extra head loss due to longer lengths of pipe. As long as the pipe is sized correctly, then there really is no limit to how far the equipment can be placed from the pool.
