If the builder is going to charge you an additional amount for the variable speed pump then it may be worth it for you to just buy it outright on Amazon and keep the single speed for a backup.

I get by fine with just one pump. I can change the circulation quite a bit just by changing the angles on my return jets and I only have three. I'd add a few more returns before adding a pump.

Is there a reason why you don't want to go with a SWG? With your size pool you'll be blowing through chlorine (at least 3 gal per day I'd guess) so you'd easily pay for a SWG in just one season.

I needed close to two gallons a day to keep sanitary during the hot months. I took the plunge and bought a SWG.......zero regrets.

I think you are looking at the adjustment wrong. That one inch you are looking at, I believe, is the fixed end where the buckle is attached and the adjustment end would be towards the anchor.

One thing to mention is that once you get to know your pool you really don't have to test daily and maintenance becomes pretty routine. I'd be surprised if I spend 15 minutes a week testing/maintenance aside from skimming/brushing/cleaning skimmers.

I had similar issues and had some algae behind my lights. A quick SLAM and all has been well since. Before going further run an overnight chlorine loss test to make sure there is nothing consuming the chlorine.
