I Won the [Case], By a Lot!

Congrats! As a complex litigator, I often feel small claims is underused. It's so quick and easy, and cheap to file. You can also file for up to $15k in Georgia. If the other side ever has a court reporter present, ask for a continuance and retail counsel. We have used small claims cases to...

    New to pools

There is a lot to digest in pool school. Take it slow. The number 1 thing to take out of it is to get a quality test kit so you can run your numbers yourself. After that, you can just use the calculator or poolmath to adjust things. The number 2 thing is the chlorine/cya chart. I printed it out...

Best place to buy chemicals online

Foreseeing the outbreak, we prepared a few weeks ago to self-quarantine to avoid exposure and have done so since a report Tuesday of a confirmed case in a local Waffle House employee. One thing I didn't think through was setting the pool up. Luckily, I have a salt system and I've kept it open...

    Thinking of getting a truck....

No I don't have a cover. I don't really need one with the trunk space. Also, the material the bed is made of is very durable. A few years ago, GM ran a Super Bowl commercial comparing the Silverado and F-150 beds with landscaping rocks dropped on it. The point of the ad was to show that the...

    Thinking of getting a truck....

I have the 2017 Ridgeline. It's the best vehicle I've owned. It's also really great to have trunk space.

    Let's See Your Test Kit!

Not quite sure what you are asking for in addition to the picture already posted. There's not much leftover room. The bottles fill most of the space in the container. Then there are 2 slots in the middle. One holds the comparator. The other holds the booklet and the CSI wheel. I suppose you...

What type of salt are you using? There are lots of threads on here about Clorox brand salt causing staining.

Need a chemist - Cal Hypo

I could be wrong, but I wouldn't concerned about the corrosive effects of a saltwater generator near the ocean. You already have a ton of salt in the air there (which certainly does lead to corrosion) and your pools already probably have a salt level close to 1500 ppm. I think raising the levels...

    Where does the chlorine go?

It becomes salt, just as it would in a swg pool. That's why all chlorine pools have salt.

Congrats! First tip is to read Pool School. Second tip would be to consider a saltwater chlorine generator.

    1. Best pool tester kit on Amazon The best kit on Amazon is the Taylor K-2006C. The problem with Amazon is, depending on the seller, it could have been sitting in a warehouse for a period of time and you don't know the conditions (e.g., heat, etc.). You can buy a tf-100 from a sister site...

Adding calcium chloride by volume means use a measuring cup, right?

I use the calcium chloride dihydrate for raising CH. They sell it in varying quantities from 5 lbs to 100 lbs. I measure by weight, and I go by the weight on the container. If I need 25 lbs, I use a 25 lb container (or a 20 and 5, or two and a half 10's, etc.).

    Winter plan for North Atlanta?

I'm doing the same this year. I may actually keep it heated until the costs become more than its worth. We don't have too many days below freezing here, and the nights are rarely below the mid-20's (and are often above freezing). My biggest concern is if the power goes out when we get that...

    Thinking of getting a truck....

I think it's more like if a gunnite pool was a pool, but a fiberglass was not technically considered a pool because of its design. It looks like a truck to 99% of people (at least the 2nd Gen model), and it has the functions of a truck. It's classified by the industry and insurance as a...

    Thinking of getting a truck....

I was in the truck market last year. I thought going in I was going to get a Tacoma, but ended up with a Ridgeline (which technically isn't a truck, but whatever). The real question is what do you need a truck for. If you are going off-road, get a Tacoma. If you need to tow 10,000 lbs, go with...

    Charlemagne the Great

Math proved that we are all descendants of Charlemagne (at least those of us with any European ancestry), and it did so before geneologists. It's because of something called pedigree collapse. Oddly enough, 20% of people alive in Europe 1000 years ago have no living descendants today. However...

Im completely clueless which robot to get

Can't go wrong with the M400. My old pool, it was mostly leaves getting in my pool. It would have dirt in it when I used the vacuum, but not bad. Now, I almost never have leaves, but the coping is made of sandstone which unfortunately degrades (could be the salinity of the water, not sure)...

    Klean Strip Green Muriatic Acid

20% is <30%, so both statements can be accurate. I think that is right based on my experience. <30% could also mean 2%, by the way, but that's not my experience based on use.

Alternating between Bleach and Liquid Chlorine

Bleach and liquid chlorine are the same thing. Sodium hypochlorite of some percentage mixed with saltwater. Just use the correct percentage (usually 6-8.25% for bleach and 10-12.5% for LC) to make sure you are adding the right amount of sodium hypochlorite.

I brush the tanning ledges and stairs, although my M400 does climb the stairs, some. Brushing pushes everything off the stairs to a place where the robot will pick it up. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N78IVWJ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I did buy this from Amazon before I...

Chlorine first. Personally, I'd wait until pH rose above 7.8 to lower it. CYA can be added anytime. It takes a while to dissolve.

I never use the CSI wheel. I use pool math for that. However, I do use the book. It is easier to me to flip to it than it is to use pool math, although now I just do it based on memory most of the time (e.g., 2 drops of acid demand = a little over a qt of MA). It works for me.

Last year my pool was awesome...this year I’m struggling: HELP!

You do want the CH higher in a plaster pool. Cal Hypo will raise it some. It certainly won't hurt, as long as you are following the recommended chlorine levels. Just don't let it go over 400, which it likely won't with short term use. Not sure if it is cost effective or not.

Last year my pool was awesome...this year I’m struggling: HELP!

I agree, it looks good (at least now). My understanding is the the OTO tests don't give false lows. Really high chlorine will be either orange or brown. Are you sure your CYA is 90? Honestly, the only thing I've seen eat chlorine that fast with a high cya is ammonia, but it would leave you...
