    UL Listing required?

Because the owners don't do any research or the people selling them are a fly by night company. There is never a problem until there is an accident and an investigation happens. By then the pool owner forgot where they got them or the people selling them have changed company names. It's at...

I have green algae and shocked the pool Friday. Today (Sunday), i have this - white stuff on the top of the pool. Thoughts?

A salt pool is a chlorine pool. Salt, when it passes through the equipment (a salt water chlorine generator) is turned into chlorine. As the chlorine reacts with teh organics in the water it turns back into salt. Salt itself doesn't sanitize the water or kill anything. How much...

    autofill overflow question

While it may seem strange, once past the backflow preventer that covers the irrigation system it is considered non potable water as a pressure drop in an irrrigation pipe could suck lawn chemicals into that pipe. Probable, no. Possible, yes. Pools should only be filled from a potable water...

Calculate Volume of Pool by adding 1 bag of salt?

Watching the results of chemical additions ovr a long eriod of time will help narrow down the volume, but a one time test won't do it. As everyone has pointed out, chemical strengths, the specificity of each of the tests and even teh volume changes. Depending on the size/shape of the pool 1"...

    CYA drop during SLAM

If you are absolutely sure you are at 30, use that to calculate SLAM level. But, something is terribly wrong. To go from 50 to 30 CYA you would have had to have exchanged about 5,000 gallons of water? Do yuo have an autofill on the pool?

Is anyone else having trouble finding 31.45% muriatic acid?

Yup, the Lowes in my area of NC have the "Green" low fume or "safe" MA and the Red full strength stuff. When we lived in SC our city passed a local "green" ordance and the Lowes stopped carrying the red stuff as it was considered unsafe for the environment. I guess the locals who passed the...

    Cartridge Cleaning

Having to clean filter more often is many times an early sign of organic matter (algae) growing in the pool that has not yet progressed to the point you can see things. We base our pool care system on accurate testing and only adding what the pool needs, when it needs it. To do that we...

Went to Leslies and got questions about results

Phosphates are organics that can come from many sources like leaves or fertilizer. The "scare" is that phosphates feed algae allowing it to grow in your pool. A pool that is maintained according to our system will always have sufficient chlorine so algae can't get started. There are some...

We are taking over a pool and need advice

You need a full set of test results. Don't worry about TA, it's the last thing to worry about. You need chlorine, ad stabilizer in the water. A pH test will point out the next move.

    Pool safety

I'm not sure if you are in Palmdale Florida or California but the building codes will probably be similar. You will probably need a fence around hte pool with childproof locks (even if you don't have kids) as well as a barrier from your house to ther pool or alarms on all doors and windows...

    Will Acid Washing Eliminate Algae

OK, you have a test Agree With a test kit in hand step one is always to properly diagnose the problem. As someone mentioned the heater, could it be staining and not algae? I say before you go in any direction you preform an OCLT to show that it is in fact algae...

    Recurring Green Algae

If your FC is at 5 you are not in a SLAM. For CYA 20 your FC should be 10. Keep it at 10. Test and bring it back to 10 as many times a day as you can. https://www.troublefreepool.com/blog/2018/12/12/slam-shock-level-and-maintain/

    autofill overflow question

I will just point out that in many jurisdictions an autofill can not be connected to an irrigation system as the source of water. Irrigation is considered non potable water due to the possibility of backflow. Almost all areas require a RPZ (reduced pressure zone) backflow preventer between the...

Wk 2 Start Up CYA rising W/O Ever Adding Any ?

At this point I would shoot for 60 as your CYA. You can keep using tabs until then. But, you don't want to overshoot. Each tab you use in your pool is raisign the CYA by 2.2ppm so that tells you about how many tabs you can use. As you have learned, there are no tabs that are pure chlorine...

Water Balanced Now Cloudy After Adding Pool Perfect PhosFree ???

Matt covered it, but moving forward I'd stop using the PhosFree. Most of us don't follow phosphates at all. Looking at your numbers I am going ot assume you have the pool store testing, which is why they sold you PhosFree. If you read around TFP you will see that not much credence...

    Dead rat in the pool

Sadly I've found many a woodland creature in my pool. Having a couple of acres in a neighborhood of similarly wooded properties keeps them around. While normal FC would be fine, I almost always took it to about half SLAM level for my CYA and called it a day.

Convert to a SWG decision not yet made.... 2nd home pool.
