Old R-871 .75 ounce bottle of reagent

I have a Taylor K-2006 test kit. I have a bottle nearly empty of some 2 year old .75 oz R-871 Reagent. I tested it against a 2 ounce bottle of R-871 Reagent I purchased from TF Testkits back in November. While slamming my pool for Algea I decided to see it there was any difference in reagent...

CC measurement after Slamming my pool

I hope someone experienced can assist me. My Taylor 2006 kit says once the FC measurement is completed then add 5 drops of R003. If the solution turnis pink then add R871 counting the drops until the solution becomes clear. Does the 5 drops of R003 apply equally if the FC is say 16 as it would...

Does Ployquat raise the CYA level in my swimming pool?

Hi all. I hope someone with knowledge of my question can help. I have green algae in my new resurfaced pool and I would like not having to slam my pool. In addition to my question above I noticed that my startup polyquat dose lowered my chlorine from 3 ppm to .5 ppm when I measured the results...

    Total dissolved solids

I've followed this forum and used the forum's recommendations as well as the pool math app since about 2013 and have noticed that there is not a lot of comments about total desolved solids.....Frankly I've ignored them too, but I wonder why Lowery Consulting includes them in their LSI...

    Pool Math calculations

I hope someone knows this answer....An example: suppose your pH is 7.8 and your TA is 70. Now you want to lower your pH to 7.4 and raise your TA to 90. Does the Pool Math calculation for each (pH and TA) take in account the other one in recommending how much chemical to lower the pH and raise...

    FC cloudy test

I'm trying to learn why in the past few days my test is cloudy with the 870 powder and the 871 Regent....the pool is crystal clear with no cloudiness at all. I know that the TF 100 instructions say the test is still valid. I'm just trying to understand what has caused the test to now be cloudy...

calcium chloride vs calcium chloride dihydrate

I am trying to understand if there is any great difference between the two calcium chlorides except the dehydrate takes more added to the pool to get the same results. The best I can tell Leslie's sells the dehydrate version which desolves in the water very fast once it's applied. I wonder if...

adding solid CYA to the pool

I have read that if you add solid CYA in a sock through the skimmer, it takes about a week before you will get a good New CYA reading. I have also read where folks recommend putting the sock filled with CYA in front of a return jet in the pool......when it is done this way do you still have to...

    Walmart's stabilizer

Can anyone tell me for sure if Wal-Mart' s stabilizer is calcium chloride OR calcium chloride dehydrate. I want to use the pool calculator to figure out how much I need to put in the sock that will go in the skimmer. All the bottle label says is Cyanuric Acid 100 per cent. Thanks, John

pH keeps going up and can't pin point whats going on

    Algae now in pool

I just got out of the hospital and have about a 12" band of green algae around the top of the pool from the water line downward. I will have my grandkids come tomorrow, ages 7 and 5. They will be leaving Tuesday. I am concerned about the FC level to kill the algae with them in the pool. The...

    cya level

I'm posting this again as it didn't post from last night in the getting started thread, don't know why. I have been told by a pool guy that the pool will lose some cya during the summer. Is that because of replacement on evaporated water with city water and rain water? Also if this is true...

how often to shock pool and FC amount

I'm new and going to shock my pool for the first time this weekend...I've used my Taylor K-2006 and taken the readings, used the FC/CYA chart for the correct FC level for shocking with the CYA I have, lowered the pH to 7.4 and used the Pool Calculator to determine that I need to raise the FC to...

    FC and pH

Can someone tell me if I have a false pH reading....My FC is 8.5 and my pH is 7. I've read that a high FC will give a false pH reading. I don't want to dump acid in the pool if not necessary and all I need to do is wait for the FC to go down to get an accurate pH reading, thank you, John
