Heater Scaling and Failed Thermoregulator: Jandy Jxi 400 NG with VF

Hello everyone. Have had a Jandy JXi 400NG with versaflo installed for about a year. Recently had very loud banging/knocking occurring when the gas heater ignited. My PB has come by to service the heater and said that 1) the thermoregulator had failed and 2) there was a large amount of scale...

    Spa Blower valve

Hi, sorry to resurrect this but I have just installed a 3 way below my blower. If I do a 30% vent opening, I get a loud whoosh, short of a whistle from the venting air. Have you solved this in any way? I am thinking of adding a in line muffler but I'm sure there is a better way.

    Adding jets AFTER plaster

Adding new jets to gunite spa as the first jets were installed too low. PB plan is to core new holes through plaster and shell and plumb in a new manifold above the existing spa loop. While my first jets sit flush to the plaster, PB is telling me the new jets will have a surface mount skirt. Are...

Robot vacuum inside 28 days stonescapes

Can I use my new active 20 robot inside the 28 day curing period for my new stonescapes pool? Plaster guide said no wheeled cleaners but this has tracks so wondering if it makes a difference.

    PVC size for equipment pad?

I have 2.5" on the suction side and 2.0 on the return side. Question is what size pipe should be used at the equipment pad between pump, filter and heater? Jandy epump VS 2.7hp Jandy JXi 400 versaflow Jandy filter CL460

    Shotcrete texture and Debris Tolerance

I’m about 10 days into my curing process and I’m noticing a lot of debris from the pool shell. Basically little pieces that have crumbled off. How much is normal, what should the shotcrete texture look like, and what are some signs of a poor job? I’m already skeptical of the sub my PB used for...

Heater Bypass vs Versaflo for Jandy JXi 400

Is there any concern going with a heater bypass (Jandy Diverter, Check Valve, Actuator) vs the Versaflo system? I've read a few conflicting threads and was hoping to consolidate the answer into this thread for future readers. Heater Bypass - Further Reading here. From the following thread, it...

Rebar too close to ground during shotcrete

I just had the shotcrete on my pool completed a couple of days ago. The ten man crew was walking all over the rebar cage (as expected), but by the time the walls were shot, the floor was bent to the ground. I was reassured 3x that they would lift the cage before pouring the foundation, but by...

Sweeps vs hard 90s near suction port

My PB has his workers over to plumb the main drain (just in the shell). I don't believe these guys are actual plumbers as they didn't know some of the answers to basic questions I was asking. It didn't seem like there was any thought put into using a sweep vs hard 90... more of what came out of...

PVC size for small pool: No such thing as too big?

So I'm going down the rabbit hole of PVC and plumbing. Initially I thought asking for a minimum of 2" PVC was upgrading efficiency but now I'm seeing that 2 should be minimum and 2.5 to 3" is the true upgrade. For a small pool (11,000 gallons, 13x28 incl 7x7 spa, 4-5.5 deep), is there such...

Plumbing Check... Pool Dig Next week.

Pretty basic pool. Dig starts this weekend and plumbing next week. Just now learning the basics. I asked for 2" rigid PVC throughout. Are the return lines a concern given the position of the skimmer? Should I swap the skimmer and the light position in the deep end? What is the marking 3' to...

Baja shelf on “deep” end? Bonus depth question

Hi, we are having a very simple rectangular pool put into our mid century modern home. With limited space, a linear pool is the most space efficient design. Overall, it’s about 13x27 with a 7x7 spa inset. Could I get some opinions on having the Baja/spa on the shallow end vs the deep end? If we...
