Multiport valve won't budge from filter housing!! RESOLVED!

Appreciate the info. I don't know what to do. Usually if there's an opportunity to upgrade I do it. Probably a stupid question but is there any resale value in what we do to our pool systems? Meaning if we decide to sell the house down the road would there be any extra value in an upgraded filter?

Multiport valve won't budge from filter housing!! RESOLVED!

Or do I step up to a cartridge filter like a Pentair and then never have to backwash again? Price is steep ($788 on amazon) but people claim their water is as clear as their DE filter and just have to rinse out a cartridge once a month.

Multiport valve won't budge from filter housing!! RESOLVED!

Now you have me thinking. Once I got the valve off I stopped thinking about a new filter. But you have an interesting point. I've had the MPV for 9 months or so, so I don't think I can return it. But maybe get $50 for it on eBay? I have $90 worth of sand in my truck that I bought on Friday. And...

Multiport valve won't budge from filter housing!! RESOLVED!

Definitely building memories. And back pain! I hate when I'm following a thread and there is nothing at the end saying how they resolved it. Trying to be better about posting how things ended up. Appreciate all the help and support.

Multiport valve won't budge from filter housing!! RESOLVED!

Got it off! Did a few laps with the heat gun (enough to change the color of the MPV a little) and gave it a few good yanks with my breaker bar.Wasn't sure the heat would really affect 10+ year old silicone but I did. And it was definitely silicone in. I take it I should NOT use silicone when I...

Multiport valve won't budge from filter housing!! RESOLVED!

I'm going to give it a shot with the rubber hose and possibly a heat gun. But I am resigned to the fact that I will most likely be replacing the filter.

Multiport valve won't budge from filter housing!! RESOLVED!

Now that you say that, I think I had read that bit years ago on this site. I had just got wrapped up on what I had seen elsewhere. Shoot. I had thought about the heat gun as well. But I wasn't sure either. I guess if I'm looking at replacing the filter anyways it might be worth a shot.

Multiport valve won't budge from filter housing!! RESOLVED!

OK I have read your reply multiple times. I have pulled sand out of the pool while vacuuming so I do suspect the sand is low. But do you know/suggest a way to get these separated?

That's a good tip. Think I will be able to break the silicone?

Multiport valve won't budge from filter housing!! RESOLVED!

Probably just the spider gasket. I swapped it out last year but was getting air in the system and water was coming up through the valve into the grooves on the top of the valve. I know I could just change the spider gasket again and/or rebuild parts of the valve but I found a decent deal on a...

Multiport valve won't budge from filter housing!! RESOLVED!

Richard I am starting to think the same thing. Not good. Might be time to start thinking about a filter purchase. I don't want to but this is an older unit and that is a lot of work to get this one out and hope I don't damage anything important in the process.

Multiport valve won't budge from filter housing!! RESOLVED!

Just went out there with a 3+ foot breaker bar. Put it in the outlet of the MPV and gave it some strong, snappy tugs. No dice, just rotates the whole thing. I am putting some serious force and leverage on this. I'm starting to wonder if these will separate?

Multiport valve won't budge from filter housing!! RESOLVED!

Pretty sure it's silicone I feel around the junction. Bet that's what they did. I'll give the sledge a try, the problem is whenever I get some good its on it, whether it's the tool or the metal pipe I was using, is that the filter housing turns instead of the MPV. If I could somehow find a way...

Multiport valve won't budge from filter housing!! RESOLVED!

I haven't been able to find a similar situation either. Closest I cold find was a youtube video where a guy had a similar valve and he drilled the 6 holes into a piece of wood and used that as his tool. That's what gave me the idea for my tool. Here's some pics of my current setup, the tool I...

Multiport valve won't budge from filter housing!! RESOLVED!

Ok, edited to my current situation. Trying to change out the sand and replace my PacFlo multiport valve. Inlet and outlet pipes are cut, filter not connected to anything. I cannot for the life of me get this valve to budge from the filter housing. Started gentle, now I'm to the point of putting...

Do you have any suggestions? Bleach it?

Can algae be gone after one treatment?

Thank you. I have just been trying to find some info on how to clean it effectively. One person said bleach, another said algaecide? after it is initially treated, I read on here that one member recommends dunking his cover frequently so that the treated water will treat the cover also. And...

Can algae be gone after one treatment?

Well I thought I had it clear before, but yes I believe I am clear now. Tonight I will do a FC test before bed. Tomorrow morning I will also FC. If it is 1 FC or less from what I recorded the night before, I will test CC by adding 5 drops of R-0003 and then if not clear add R-0871 until clear...

Can algae be gone after one treatment?

Ok in my searching I just found this. I have never done it and I will now as soon as I get home. 1) Do your FC test with the R-0870 DPD Powder as you normally would, adding R-0871 to bring the solution clear, as normal. 2) Add 5 drops of R-0003 (Yellow cap) to the solution. Swirl to mix. 3) If...

Can algae be gone after one treatment?

The pool is running 24/7. I measured the pH before raising to shock level since I thought I had read the pH rises at shock level. The water is clear right now. So I think I might be confused and I hope you can bear with me here. The chlorine test I am doing is in the TF-100 test kit where I...

Can algae be gone after one treatment?

Testing with the TF-100. FC was at 5 before everything, pH at 7.4. CYA was 35, so I figure a shock level of 14. Went a little overboard with the bleach and after the FC was testing around 20 last night. Kept pH at 7.4 after adding MA after bleach. FC tested around 20 this morning. pH at 7.4.

Can algae be gone after one treatment?

I was so proud of myself this year. Stayed on top of things and never had a green pool to deal with. Well yesterday I pull back the cover to take a water sample and see some green around the steps in the deep end and around the light. Not bad but I need to take care of it. Pull the cover...

Helping BIL out, want to make sure I am correct

I was thinking that might be the case. I will gently mention it to him although I think if his pool clears up he won't really consider it. Not much I can do at that point. Thank you everyone for your help.
