New EVO 614i Robot Pool Cleaner Review

They all "say" they map things, but it is mostly marketing.

That said, if I have just one dime-sized leaf in my pool, it will be gone 90% of the time, after one cycle and 100% of the time after two cycles.

Think about it.. The robot has no clue where it is.. It does not start in the same place everyday... And it has no memory of where it has been and has to basically start over each cycle.

Some information to help folks find this (excellent) thread if they are Googling for information about the EPIC or SCOUT products. According to Polaris/Fluidra there isn't much difference between the three products.

Polaris EPIC 8642 iQ - $1600+ at local pool store, includes caddy, 3rd year warranty (possibly from the store, not Polaris)

Polaris SCOUT 42 iQ - $1150 only at Pinch-a-Penny, no caddy, 2 year warranty

Aqua Products EVO 614 iQ - $850 from Marina Pool & Spa, free shipping, no caddy, 2 year warranty

Looks like a caddy, if needed/wanted, is $130 from various sources.

There has been discussion in this thread about the EVO 614 iQ/604 (and SCOUT 42 iQ, EPIC 8642 iQ) picking up and retaining fine dust, especially in desert environments.

I checked with Polaris/Fluidra and there is a fine mesh basket available.

The Fine Filter Canister is $49 from Marina Pool & Spa. Seth also said that they would swap the General Purpose Canister with the Fine Filter Canister when initially purchasing an EVO 614 iQ/604.

Slightly different than the issue of fine dust, has anyone else had an issue with small debris escaping the basket and expelling from the impeller/exhaust port on top (apologies if this has already been asked/answered)? We have small seed-like debris this time of year and on the maiden voyage of my new 614iQ I noticed debris coming out of the impeller. Plenty stayed in the basket of course but there was enough to notice. Perhaps my unit is not getting a good enough seal around the rubber gasket on top of the basket? Here's a photo of the basket with debris. As you can see, there is a little debris up in the lid and outside the sealed basket area (when lid is closed) as well as buildup around the rear of the basket upper seal.

And totally unrelated, I'm happy to report a successful repurposing of my Dolphin S300i caddy to accomodate the 614iQ robot and power supply! I removed the old Dolphin power supply from the caddy and the new 614iQ power supply simply dropped over the upper mounting bar and was supported by the lower lip. Though not an exact fit, it only had a little wobble. One large zip tie later and it works great!

After speaking with Margaret at Marina I'm thinking of getting the 614iQ, but I'm concerned about the size of the basket. We have a red oak that drops an absurd amount of acorns and leaves in the fall and the spring and the pictures I can find make the basked seem rather small and angled as opposed to more boxy and hence more area. Can anyone comment on that aspect of it?

I feel your pain or concern. You can see my comments earlier in this thread. I bought one a couple of months ago and the "bane of my existence" is my neighbors Oak tree that is just off the fence which towers over my pool great shade sometimes but I deal with an onslaught of acorns, squirrels eating acorns and then fall leaves. I do have an issue with large acorns getting stuck in the shoot causing it to not be able to pick up after that. Stopping it and a simple swipe of the hands clears it out. As for basket size, it has not been an issue for me. I do get some large leaves but those are an afterthought to me as acorns are my biggest issue in my pool. Even with this, I am still happy with this unit. I would not go back to Dolphin. For the squirrels, I invested in an airsoft gun. They get right over the pool and drop acorns.

The "slot" or "shoot" that the debris need to be able to pass through is just over 3/4" by 6 1/2" wide, and about 5 inches long.

The basket on the Dolphin is technically larger, but in real life, the cloth cover over the inlet will not really allow the basket to fill up all the way. I suspect that both the Dolphin and EVO will have about the same amount of trouble picking up large acorns. Not really what a robot is designed to do. That is what a leaf rack is for. :mrgreen:

get you an Oak Tree and see how that works.... ;). on my dolphin, during Acorn season, I removed that cloth cover.

My old Doheny Discovrey S200 didn't like going up on our Baja shelf, which is about 10-12" depth. The Evo loves the baja shelf and sometimes launches water onto the deck as it passes by the edge. Not a real concern, but it is funny to watch the roost of water spraying out as it roll across the step.

my dogs love this. or hate this. they go nuts anytime mine is on the steps or crawling the walls
 
We just had our pool finished a few months ago. Ours is a smaller 12x26 curvy Freeform. Everything I read online said dolphin cc plus. So that is what I ordered on Amazon. Being the indecisive person I am it’s still in the box and returnable until January 31 and I am researching more. I am trying to find more reviews or videos on the evo cleaners. I mainly deal with dust and dirt around here. I can clean the pool good and next day more dirt and dust.
 
I have a curvy freeform pool about the same size. I have the EVO 604. Purchased a house with a suction side cleaner that appeared to not be working. By the time I ordered the EVO the pool had not been cleaned in a week or two. In the meantime a fierce windstorm blew through and there was dust all around the drains and leaves all over the bottom. After 2 passes with the EVO the bottom of the pool was 99% clean and the filter in the EVO was full of all the dust and leaves. YMMV but I am pretty impressed.

That is good to know. I wish there was more reviews on the Evo on Amazon its not to good and people say warranty claims are hard to get ahold of anyone. I am also looking at the E30
