If your pump and heater won't be covered shouldn't be an issue just a pain to maintain for a few weeks.

It would reduce the ID of your pipe in half and cause a great deal of friction loss and a bottle neck. If on the suction side would probably starve the pump causing the impeller to cavitate and destroy the pump.

You need a 0-30 psi gauge. I'd go with the one from tftestkits.com. if there is a mechanical wholesaler around you could go there and purchase they will have them in stock, you'll just pay more.
