Hello - My IntelliFlo VS-3050 Pool Pump stopped running. When I hold down stop to reset it, it makes a click (almost like the motor starts for a millisecond and then errors out again. I hope it's not seized up. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I used this site a year ago and the service and replies were terrific!

Check that you have around 220V-240V between L1 and L2 at the motor wire connections.

Put a clamp on ammeter on the power lines and see what current it draws at startup.

Post a pic of what the drive display shows when it errors.

Thanks for the reply - my drive doesn't have a display, just a red blinking light. I don't have a meter (that's kind of above my head). May have to call a pool person.

I think the attached manual is for your pump.

Do you have ALARM LED blinking?

You find the power connections - L1 L2 - in the AC Power Connection compartment.

Do that at your own risk only if you are comfortable working around live voltage.

Thanks Allen. Blinking 8 times and this time when resetting it, it turned on for a few seconds and it sounds like it's mechanical. A bad grinding, sounds like there were rocks in it before it stopped again. Guessing this may be costly?

Check that nothing is blocking/jamming the fan on the rear of the motor. Is there corrosion in the area where the motor meets the housing?

Update: Not sure which caused what, but the front bearing is bad (difficult to even turn, and sounds and feels like gravel is in it instead of bearings). Also, the motor coils are black along with the white part of the shaft. (images attached). I guess I need a new motor, correct?

Probably more cost effective to get a new pump.

Hi Pool Friends - I need to buy a new pump to replace an IntelliFlo VS-3050. Last year a pool guy told me (from what I recall) new pumps have a new size standard that requires different-sized fittings or tubes and that everything would need to be updated. Did I understand that correctly and does this sound accurate?

Before I make the investment, if this is the case, are there pump options that I can buy that will work with the existing hardware? Not really sure how to decipher the difference between all the options (trade grade, etc.), so it's a little overwhelming on what I need to buy. I don't want to get "pool stored", so coming here for good advice/direction.

I have a water feature plus a spa that waterfalls into the pool (25K gallons).

On a bit of a budget - any recommendations on replacements? Here's a few I found
- Pentair 011076 IntelliFlo3 VSF 3HP Pool Pump on eBay for $1400 and it's local
- Pentair EC-011057 IntelliFlo VS+SVRS 3HP $2119 at Leslie's
- VS-3050 (exact replacement) $2119 online

A new IntelliFlo3 (top one) from a pool store is less than the other two AND it seems like it's better/newer with wifi, so I obviously don't understand the differences.

Any help understanding the best replacement would be appreciated! Thank you!

Polytec pools is a much more reliable source then ebay...

There is no new size standard that requries new fittings or pipes. A new pump may require a bit of PVC work to connect into your existing plumbing.

These are the dimensions of the IntelliFlo3.

These are the dimensions of your existing pump and Pentair did not show dimensions to the pipe inlet and outlet locations...

You can take some measurements and see what pipe changes will be needed to install the Intelliflo3,

Brant,

I can't tell if the "black" is from the bad bearing or from the coil...

I'd clean it all up.. If you can't see actual damage to the coil, then I'd get the front bearing replaced.

I can't remember the exact place, but there are plenty of shops that sell bearings.. They can look at what you have and tell you what you need.

I suspect you whole pump is quite old, so Allen is right that a new pump makes the most logical choice, but that might not be the most economical choice.

The New IntelliFlo3 is not a drop in replacement for what you have. A standard IntelliFlo would be.. I "assume' your automation system is still working for pump control, if so, then both the IntelliFlo3, and the standard IntelliFlo, can be controlled by your current automation.

Thanks,

Jim R.
