SLAM and white haze

I'm suspecting the cover and/or vault now,
I would as well. After that, the only other thing I could consider is testing. If perhaps there was the slightest amount of inconsistency somehow. Is your chlorine tube nice and sterile? Maybe time for an alcohol cleaning? You've done so much to the pool already, we're getting into the tiny things now. Are you using a smart-stir?

No, I don't use a speed stir, just manually swirl as I drop the R-0871 in at a rate of about a drop per second, letting the drop form on the bottle before it drips in. I do rinse my sample container in the pool water before collecting the sample to be tested. I also use glass beakers and rinse them after testing as well.

Copy that. Well, something to consider later. For me, it's a royal pain in the backside to try to hold, drop, and swirl. The smart stir makes a HUGE difference for FC, TA, and CH testing IMO. If it's been a while since you gave the chlorine tube an alcohol scrub, it may worth doing. Anything at this point to end that SLAM.

What is a chlorine tube? I'm guessing it's what I use to test my chlorine levels but I may be wrong.

I got my cover nice and clean, it looks fabulous. I also took all the covers off my vault to clean it out. My vault doesn't drain very well but it does drain well enough to never touch the cover, however, I did vacuum out about 15 - 20 gallons of water and leaf debris. Now I have hope that my troubles will be over. I never guessed that even though my cover doesn't touch the nasty that it could still cause issues.

I may have to look into figuring out a way to make my vault drain better. Does everyone have a nice and dry autocover vault?

Just a few progress pics of the clean cover and vault.

I don't seem to know how to do the quote thing yet, lol.

So I left my cover off overnight, wich I just now read I should keep the cover off during a SLAM anyway, and my OCLT was 1. I might do the OCLT again just to see the results.

I can not see the underside of my cover as it rolls up I to a vault. I can access that vault and there is some debris in there but not horrible. After our San Diego winter months I removed all the kids and cleaned it out really well, washing it down with a hose when I was done.

I have also scrubbed out my skimmer basket a few times with a stiff brush, I get in my light niches best I can from the deck, run a bottle brush up each return jet for the hot tub and pool, used brushes on my autofill as well as added some chlorine directly to the autofill enclosure.

I figure. I'll keep SLAMing and updating this along the way. Hopefully I'm close to being done.
You are supposed to keep cover off during SLAMM? I have not been doing this.

Apparently. I just learned this too. Here is where I found out.

OCLT is 1.5. Now that the autocover and it's vault is clean I'm going to brush and SLAM my pool for a few days and see what happens. I wasn't really expecting to pass the OCLT on the first night after cleaning the vault.

I don't have high hopes in the cleaning. I've added nearly 2 gallons of chlorine today, but I'll still give it a few days to see what happens.

Can you guys still see my additions through Pool Math app even though I don't have a subscription? I haven't really logged anything there until recently just in case you can.

Without a subscription, your shared logs show what you recorded as adding to the pool and the last test results you saved. For $8 a year, you get to save all your test results. Mine are in there for the last 6 years.

If you lost more than 1 ppm of FC you didn't pass the OCLT.

Yes, sorry, my last sentence does make it sound as though I thought I passed. What I meant to say was that I failed the OCLT, but that was ok because I didn't really expect to pass it on the first night anyway.

Subscribed. Now I have to be diligent in saving my results, haha. I have been logging in paper so maybe I can move away from doing that.

Testing question. I guess maybe I should ask it in the testing section of the forum, but this question crossed my mind while testing FC for my current situation.

How long after adding the R-0870 powder to the water sample should I wait before I start the drop test? I ask because usually I'll add the powder to my water sample and swirl it for about 30 seconds before starting to add the drops. Tonight my wife walked in the kitchen where I was doing my after dark OCLT test and started talking to me right after I added the powder. I kept swirling as she talked for a couple of minutes because there is no way I'd be able to count drops and pay attention to her and I noticed more powder was dissolved in that extra time than would have been dissolved in the first 30 seconds of my normal swirl. I guess my question is, do I swirl until I don't see any further dissolving of the crystals?

So long as you used a sufficient amount of powder (slightly heaping scoop) you’re good 👍🏻 pausing a little before adding the drops shouldn’t hurt anything, pausing while adding the drops is what can skew the results.
