Hello all! First winter with my SWG. For the past few months I have been running my SWG at 20 percent which kept the FC 4-5 with no problems. I have my CYA at 70-80 right now. The SWG is finally giving me the LO TEMP message and stopped generating. How are you guys chlorinating in the colder months? I have been using 1/2gal, twice a week of 10 percent HD bleach leftover from my non SWG days but am almost out. I see the HD bleach price stayed the same but is now only 2 bottle packs instead of 3. Also their website does not show availability anymore either. Not to mention there is a huge line to get into any hardware stores here due to so many folks having busted pipes.
I have a floater, so I'm guessing my options are go find good bleach or buy some pucks for the floater. I am thinking pucks, as it will help keep my CYA up. In the warmer months I would have to add CYA every 1-2 months, but not sure what it will do in this cooler weather. Any thoughts on which direction to take? I trashed the inline chlorinator during installation of the SWG so that's not an option.
Also what is the cut off temp for the SWG?
Lastly, my plan for the winter storm we had here was to keep the pump running 24/7 but obviously this didn't work when I lost power. Immediately after losing power I went and drained the filter and pump. I could only loosen one of the SWG unions so I left it open ended. Almost immediately after opening it what little water the was left in the cell froze. Nothing cracked, and there doesn't seem to be any moving parts so am I correct to assume the SWG will fire right back up when its warmer?
