We have a 18x48 above ground pool cover ,and i also know that the cover needs to be a few feet bigger to accommodate that overhang..

Would it be a good recommendation to go for a cover for a 21ft size pool,( giving 3 extra ft along with that additional 3 or 4 ft that is the norm for a pool cover)
Or would that be too big?... Taking into consideration those big winter pool pillows :)

While I don't close or use a cover, I've seen quite a few here. When trying to size your cover, be sure any excess overhang serves a good purpose - typically security. I think most covers for AGPs I've seen seem to overhang about a foot or so which is enough to cover the pool well and provide good tie-down points for ropes/weights, etc. The more excess cover you have, the more potential you'll have for a huge sail susceptible to catching wind. But let's see if we can get this conversation going a bit more from fellow AGP owners who close each winter.

From what ive seen and reading, if i do order a cover for a 18 ft round pool,, its is infact 21ft ( giving that extra few feet for overhang), just hope thats enough when adding those winter pillows lol

I don't know for sure, because I don't do a winterizing, but I think you are supposed to lower the water level anyway so the pillows would take less cover height than if they were up above the top of the pool when it was full.
