Why is higher cya and lower fc okay on swg?

With lc I was always worried about chlorine lock and needing to keep my FC high. While learning about swg it seems like it's okay to have high cya levels and low FC still. I can't figure out what makes it any different. Thanks! 🙏

Be careful with that though. It’s more of a “you can often get away with it”. It’s not running the chlorine low, it’s running the CYA a bit higher than when using liquid chlorine.

Be aware that a typical pool loses 2-4ppm of FC every day due to sun. So keeping it low can be problematic if low means 3ppm. The numbers on the chart are minimum throughout the day so your target should be 4ppm above the minimum for your CYA at least until you get a good read on how much you lose each day.
