Helped my neighbor today with his equipment. We replaced seal plate, mechanical seal and diffuser on his Jandy Pro Series VSSHP270AUT pump. The diffuser comes with 2 orings. The manual that comes with diffuser shows installation of two o-rings being placed somewhere on diffuser. However, only one ring fits in grove that is nearest basket that sits inside of receiver housing. The other grove where I assume second o-ring would go just floats in space inside larger housing. I’m sure pros will ask - yes, we ordered the correct parts. Confirmed all part numbers with pump model diagrams to be certain. Also, they were compared to old parts before we installed and were identical.

To see exactly what I’m referring to, see video link below and fast forward to the 0:40 second mark. The guy in this video had the same exact scenario I am having. Thank for any help!

This is very intriguing. That diffuser totally looks to be way too long for that pump. I’m very curious what people who own one of these pumps have to say about this.

I think that some have 1 O-ring and some have 2 O-rings.

If you have 2 O-rings, then they should be inserted into the forward tube going into the basket area.

Maybe the parts are not all original.

The manual shows one O-ring, but the part number shows 2 O-rings.

You probably need to ask Jandy.

To help prevent an airleak into the system, make sure the diffuser O-ring, O-ring groove, and O-ring seal area are clean and free of debris.

If you removed the diffuser O-ring, make sure you install it into the groove you removed it from.

(See Figure 16.)

If grease is used to retain the o-ring, it must be silicone based. Do not use petroleumbased grease. It will destroy the o-ring.

James,

Thanks for your help and info. I have confirmed with my neighbor that no work has ever been performed on the pump internals, all previous parts we removed were the ones that came with pump brand new when installed in 2016. I once again reviewed the old parts and they are identical to the ones in both the diagram I referenced, as well as the Fluidrausa OEM replacement part diagram. The photos below are from the diffuser packaging that show the 2 ring install. You will see an asterisk above one of the diagrams referencing certain models only requiring 1 O-ring but that does not pertain to his model.

The oddest finding is how the diffuser itself is too long for the receiver housing. The lip on the diffuser sits a full 1” from the receiver housing edge(as seen in original video I posted). The reason we were doing all this work in the first place is because the old diffuser had come loose from the seal plate, I now see why it failed based on this flawed design. If anyone else has any insight it is appreciated.
