Why do I keep eating Pump Motors?

Voltage drop from on/off is at the 5% limit so tolerable. I think the real issue was with the power line.

One question, is this circuit on a 20A or 15A breaker?

The GFI is a 15. I will look at the sub panel to see if it is also 15. I've had a master electrician (wired my last house when I built it) look at this set-up and scratch his head. The pool and my basement remodel are all tied together on the same sub. There IS some funk - a 'PRO' did it - that's a WHOLE 'nuther story....

Hi - first of all the extension cord has to go, only acceptable for very short term, if electrical has yet to be signed off..

The toasted wire makes me suspect loose connections between (plus sizing advice you received above) between panel & pump. Loose connections get hot fast.

I presume this is a dedicated feed to motor but must ask is anything "piggybacking" the electrical service to the pump?
