Hi! I'm following the TFP chlorine chart, SWG tab. Currently, CYA = 70 with 5 ppm FC. All is fine. In fact I was noticing today that I can look the full pool length through 40' or so of water and see the Polaris as though it were right next to me. TFP clear!

But if I were using lq, the target would be 8-10ppm. That's quite a difference. A bit scary in fact.

So what makes this okay? I've seen the "temporary super-chlorination" argument a few places including my AquaPure manual. But @mknauss recently refuted that, and I've never seen it mentioned regarding (gasp) tab chlorinators.

Can a chemistry expert please explain? I'll sleep better :)

All possible thanks for this forum: the freely provided expertise and camaraderie. Everything the whole internet ought to be.

Fwiw, here's today's test:
FC = 5ppm
CC = ~0 (barely noticeable pink tinge)
Ph = 7.8
TA = 60
CH = 410
Salt = 3000
